United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Westminster TDV8 Zermatt Silver
3.0SC. What do I need to know please?

Just thinking at this stage as Mrs JW911 wants rid of the Freelander. We don’t want a 5.0SC but would consider a 5.0, which isn’t available in the U.K, hence thinking of the 3.0SC. She wants to steer clear of the diesels.

So is the 3.0SC worth a look? Is it reliable (by RR standards Laughing)?

Any other top tips please? 2012 4.4 TDV8 Westminster

Only thing with a 3.0 s/c is that they only come in Vogue SE guise, so spec can be lacking. I have never had a 3.0 but from what I have heard I don't think the engines are as strong as the 5.0 v8.

Good luck with your search. What's your criteria

Not a diesel and not 12 mpg. I’m sure I’ll struggle through with a Vogue SE. Wink

Shorter journeys for the most part. The plan is to keep the Westie, which is a bit like the faithful old Labrador. It’s had as much surgery as a faithful old Labrador at any rate and we’re lucky enough to have another car when if something inevitably breaks. 2012 4.4 TDV8 Westminster

I have run several 5.0 s/c and currently have one and I get 21-24 mpg on average. I am not sure but I would think the 3.0 S/C would have to work harder than the 5.0 due to the weight.

They're quite rare but can be a bit raucous higher up the rev range and I don't think the engine suits the Range Rover.

IIRC they only did the 3.0S/C in the Sport in this country, could be wrong....... Thumbs Up Pete

They did offer them in the L405 in both old and facelift. They're just rarer than hens teeth.

I looked at one at Shukers in 2019 but felt the engine didn't suit the car and went with a 4.4 diesel.

Wow, as you say, very rare, I know from reading the US forums that it does less or similar MPG than the 5.0 S/C so not much point...!! Pete

Pretty sure it came from the F-Type, which it worked well in. You still get the same potential tensioner issue with the S/C V6 as you can get in the V8, but again, I think that has a lot to do with the frequency of oil changes.

OP, what about the P400 version of the L405, think they came out in the L405 around 2018 after V6 was dropped?

If you can, drive them both back to back.

Thanks for the thoughts. The P400 with the kind of mileage I’d want is a bit too much unfortunately. I’ll keep looking and may try a 5.0SC if there’s one in budget. 2012 4.4 TDV8 Westminster

The 3.0 SCV6 is essentially the same as the 5.0 V8, just with a smaller cylinder head on each bank

340bhp, so its not exactly slow
Still suffer from the same issues as the 5.0

Rather have an SCV6 than a 2.0 though Thumbs Up
