Locking Wheel Nut Keys

Hi,

I thought I'd throw this out there as an FYI (you guys might already be aware but it caught me off guard)

I lost my locking wheel nut key again... I have a really bad habit of torquing the wheel nuts and then packing up tools and forgetting i've left the locking wheel nut key on there and driving off.

The first time I did it I had to go to a dealer for them to find out which key it was from their master set, they sold me one and I was on my way.

This time I knew I was after a key labeled H so tried to find one off ebay and I noticed the one or two sellers that sell them only had a few of the codes available (none with H).

So I emailed the sellers and both said the keys are obsolete and they wont be getting any other combinations in stock.

I called the dealer I originally used and they said they could no longer get the keys and could only sell me a new set (Im assuming a different key design?) so would need to book in with service centre to have current ones removed and new ones installed.

I tried another local dealer and they couldn't get the part either and did a parts search and told me a few dealers who showed they had stock.

I called the first dealer and although their system showed stock they didnt actually have it. The second dealer I tried which was a few hundred miles from me actually had one on the shelf so posted it to me.

I've ordered genuine RR normal wheel nuts to remove and replace the locking wheel nuts with. Last year it was easy to replace the locking wheel nut key but it appears they aren't being made anymore and supplies are dwindling.

Perhaps I'm wrong and its just a temporary shortage but thought I'd throw the warning out there to remove or replace with a different locking wheel nut as I dont think we will be able to get hold of new keys much longer.

Cheers

Most people don't use locking wheel nuts. The value of a set of wheels to a casual thief is not worth the effort and a pro will just steal the whole car. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

That is my chain of thought now, don't think an L322 is likely to get its wheels pinched so they're more bother than they're worth especially with my track record of losing keys.

Like JayGee says, more likely to take the whole car

Consequently if anyone finds this post and needs a H key I'll be selling mine Laughing

Worrying how quickly genuine LR L322 parts are becoming obsolete. Kevin

Locking wheel nuts make a nice splash when thrown into a pond.
I’ve had so many problems with locking nuts on our family of cars. Stupid tyre monkeys with their guns, almost killing them so you strip them when broken down on a fast road…. D’oh!

If a thief wants them, he’ll use a locking nut removal tool!
