Yes, spline wear on the gearbox o/p shaft and the transfer case input shaft is a known issue and will eventually strip both shafts. They're assembled with a special grease but either the quantity of grease applied at assembly is sometimes inadequate or on some the grease dries more quickly than on others.

Obviously you need to eliminate all other possibilities first. |

Yes I need to spend some time under the thing anyway. I discovered a small oil drip where the rear of the lower front a-arm is attached to the engine cradle thing and I need to change the oils as well. |
