2012 L322 dashboard vent replacement

Hi all,

I had my dashboard apart this weekend to fit the Unique Auto Apple Carplay adapter (which is great, btw).

[And no, my steering wheel isn't missing-in-action, it's a LHD model!]

I put (almost) everything back together successfully, but I can't get the top vent to go back in the dashboard! It is missing some metal clips, which is likely why it won't hold in, but I've tried wiggling it in all sorts of ways and can't get it to seat correctly. It looks like the front goes in first, then the back goes in on the three clips - but doing that means it isn't aligned with the vent outlets underneath. There are a couple of Torx screws under it that hold the dashboard in place, so I can't put it in the dashboard first. Is there knack to this?

Also I'm missing some trim fastenings, specifically the metal clips that go on the plastic bits (like on the central vent), and a load of black Torx screws. Does anybody know the best place to get these? The Torx screws are used everywhere around the dashboard so I assume they're a very common part I can buy in bags of a hundred, but eBay, Amazon and Google have come up blank.

Many thanks!

Hi,
These clips should work, I bought some similar clips for my 2012 last week and they fit fine.
Unfortunately the exact ones I bought are out of stock.

The top vent is difficult to refit, if it doesn’t line up with the duct it won’t go in.
It needs to go in fairly flat and using a torch through the gap helps to see.
Once it aligns it will slot straight in.
Hope this helps.

I too struggled with mine, and I just recall thinking "It doesn't go in the way you expect" it's not intuitive. I wish I could remember, but just try fitting one side first - even if you think it won't work or it's wrong. The obvious way doesn't work. 2012 4.4 TDV8 Westminster - Baltic Blue, Jet interior
