If you're not capable of fixing it yourself then for Petes sake it's not overland over the Sahara you're only going to Scotland. Whilst inconvenient it is something that can be fixed on the side of the road by the RAC or AA.

Get a cheap portable soldering iron if you don't have one, a penknife and some adhesive heatshrink and then at least you have the tools to fix it if you need to. Oh and if you don't want to cut the carpets with aforementioned knife then a torx bit for undoing the seat brackets on the floor. Ed

The confusion, I suspect, results from different behaviour on earlier and later cars. As others have said, on a 4.4 you risk shutdown if you don't get it fixed. Presumably implemented in software to prevent upstream damage to other components.

On my 3.6 I think I could just have carried on and it would merely have been an inconvenience. But I wanted it sorted so I fixed it myself. Not difficult but a bit messy.

Try to get the fuel level low before getting it fixed. They'll thank you for it! 2016 Skoda Octavia VRS Estate

On my 3.6 TDV8 the gauge started reading zero and as explained by others on here the car went into limp mode then shut itself off.

Clearing the fault codes generated with my iid tool let me restart the engine but I couldn't even manage a mile before it would happen again.

Managed to get home with lots of stalling, code clearing, restarting and repeating!

All noted.

I am hopeless at mechanics / electronics etc.

I am away soon 22,23 and 24 June (another camping trip before the long Scottish one which starts on 3 July).

I want it fixed before then. I am willing to cover fuel costs (no pun intended!) and pay cash in hand for someone to help me with this???

Just PM me if you fancy earning a few quid helping out a fatty owner!!!!!!

Bring it to Wales and I could sort it. Suspect it'll be a bit expensive to cover my time and fuel to go to Lincoln. Rolling with laughter Ed
