Hi all
I had a message appear on the dash yesterday. “Suspension fault max 30mph”. I then saw the front start to drop and the ride got very bumpy
I then got another message saying raising will continue when compressor cooled so I parked up. I saw all 4 corners were low not just the front.
I restarted it and the rear went up but the front was trying hard to raise but very slow. Same message again when I started to drive.
When I got home I left it for 5 hrs so it was all stone cold. I tried it again. This time I could hear hissing from the front drivers side when it was trying to inflate.

It’s a 2010 with variable damping. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I can change just the air bags and I don’t need shocks.
Are the pre 2010 the same as post 2010 or are the different.
Are they also handed left and right?

Given that your shocks are 13 years old, I'd probably be replacing those as well as the bags as complete units.

Sealing the bags onto the dampers can be a right PITA as well so at least doing them as one piece units will remove that issue.

When I did my front shocks the car felt like it was riding well but when I cut the old air bag open for a look inside it, the bag was full of oil. The shock had burst inside the bag but the bag was keeping it contained.

Island 4x4 do them as complete units made by the OEM supplier to Land Rover for £425 each + VAT.

I ordered the non damping versions of these for my car and they were identically stamped to the originals and they made a big difference.

If you’re doing them yourself Andy, give the bottom bolts a good soaking with penetrating oil. They can be a sod to get out.  John

Took me longer to shift one of the hub bolts then it actually took me to change the strut! The nuts come off easily but the bolts seized in the hub/strut.

We've got an Ingersol Rang impact wrench that runs on the compressor and is rated to 1830nm of torque. With an impact socket on the head of the bolt working it backwards and forwards, it still didn't budge.

In the end I put the nut back on the bolt to protect the end of it and used some heat and a lump hammer and it eventually moved. I wasn't happy with the bolt after it though so it was replaced.

Out of my entire suspension rebuild, dropping the rear subframe and then rebuilding the engine, that one bolt is the one that sticks in my memory the most.  2002 4.6 Vogue SE - Alveston Red with Lightstone Leather

I gave up on mine, seized solid in the bore, took it to a garage in the end, they had similar difficulties, even with a borrowed bigger impact gun (wound right up) , little bit of anti seize on original assembly would have been a Godsend....

Also I'd just change the whole pair of struts rather than the bags, only to have to come back to the job in a year or two again.
