United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Santorini Black
Please identify this knob...

This rotating knob sits on the lower front of the driver's seat. There isn't one on the other side.

I can't fathom what it does and can't find any reference to it in The Book.

Can someone here help please?

(RR is a 2007 3.6tdV8 Vogue SE)

Best wishes to all and many thanks

Reggie

If it's for the ejector seat, it's not working Very Happy

(Passenger seat still firmly attached)

As for after-market, I initially assumed it was a fader knob. But it doesn't do anything to the sounds...

Maybe I should try to trace its wiring back to something? ( I am very un-techy, so that will be a challenge!)

R Smile

PS: Thank you, Stan, for putting the photo in the thread - I couldn't see how to do that Embarassed

My 08MY 3.6 TDV8 Vogue definitely did not have that on the drivers (or passengers) seat. Confused The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom Smile

Reggie, could it be from a previous owner making adaptions for a disability perhaps? A mounting bracket or fixing point. Just a thought. 2012 4.4 TDV8 Westminster - Baltic Blue, Jet interior

My seat side cover broke about there, and I used a countersunk black screw to hold it back on. Could this be a crude repair to hold the seat valance cover back on? There’s a loop behind to locate it I think.

Thank you all for these thoughts.

The only previous owner is a friend and unfortunately he has no clue as to what it is.

We still haven't worked out how to use the FBH or what the venture cam is for!

I have had a closer look (seat in fully-up position etc for access)

The knob rotates easily, there is a block on the back of it. The moulding appears to be prepared for it, the block is screwed into the moulding properly. The lead from this block runs to another block which has a modem-type connector plugged into it.

That wire disappears into the large block of spaghetti/plastic/stuff under the seat.

There are no manufacturer markings but the block attached to the knob has a date sticker of the type used by LR. (December 06, which ties into the build date)

The only thought I have is that it is an aux volume control for the (currently disconnected) rear passenger entertainment?

(or the actual passengers, if that's possible? Very Happy )

Do you think I'm heading in the right direction please?

(I want to take it out as it's ugly, but not if it's correct)

All help gratefully received as ever.

Could it be an adaptation for disability?

Have you tried it out with the car running to see if you can identify any changes whilst turning it?

Hello again!

Yes, I tried with engine/radio/phone on but none seemed to change in any way.

As for adaptation for disability, I don't believe so. My friend bought the car new and I have known it since then - including when and where serviced etc. The head unit was upgraded a couple of years ago by installers I know well - they swear this knob is nothing to do with them!

The car has a Tracker though (from new). I've had Trackers before and not had anything like this but could it be connected to that in some way??

It reminds me a little of those ADSL filters used for wifi routers - a small version.

It's mysterious for sure..... Question

Follow the wires - can you see them from under the rear in the passenger footwell? 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

I've had another look under the seat - a bit more brave this time Shocked

The knob is definitely not genuine LR but aftermarket (all nicely installed though)

The LR date sticker I spotted before is actually on the seat trim itself.

I removed the knob from the seat trim. There is a sticker that says RLC on it.

The wire goes down under the main installation of kit that's under the seat - I can't see or feel any further...

It's an intensity control of some sort - volume/fade/dimming/etc - but I've tried all the toys I can find in the car and none seem to be affected by the mystery knob Cool

Planning to remove it but leave it connected, tucked under the seat. I can then fill the hole and stop fretting!

All suggestions of what RLC stands for are welcome Very Happy

FOUND IT!

The car has a mega-upgraded hifi and this knob is a bass level control.

Lost on me as the radio is only on Smooth Radio if at all and only ever at low volume. I couldn't hear the difference!

No idea why they put it in that place though (then forgot they did it!)

I will ask them next week.

Thank you all

R
