Broken coolant hose fitting, help identifying part

Hi,

Hopefully someone can help me out. Whilst removing the air intake hose I managed to snap of an adjacent cooling pipe. Mad

Can someone please identify the part number of the fitting in the image with the punch wedged in preventing a coolant escape?

I’ve seen a thread on here where someone inserted a small length of metal tube to act like a stent. It was epoxied into the large pipe first and then the smaller pipe epoxied onto the bit of metal tube by sliding it over.

You have to go searching for topics using words like coolant, leaks, tdv8, hoses, pipes , stent etc

Edit:

Saved you the bother …

As above, can fix it yourself or you need the full assembly and rubber pipes. Not much change from £100 if I remember right.

Hopefully the parts won’t be on back order….

IMHO its quite a risk trying to fix/tap a fitting into the broken pipe... Its not like its an expensive fix compared to an engine Shocked

Given the inherent weakness of the original design and the easily identifiable stress fracture point a good repair with a metal sleeve is likley stronger than OE 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

IMHO it is still a ticking time bomb... the plastic has a "life" when it starts to degrade and break at the smallest and most stressed part then it will just keep on deteriorating and break at the next stress point..

I suppose there is an argument for reinforcing a new one to aid it's longevity but that's probably subjective.... Thumbs Up Pete

Spare parts which should be on every 4.4 TDV8 owners shelf:

@haylands. Not heard of any other part of that assembly breaking so wouldn’t regard it as a ‘ticking time-bomb’. It’s simply a poorly designed ( Ford) part and should have had a metal reinforcing sleeve or had better stress relief profile in the plastic. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

If you take a look at the small plastic pipe that leads onto the top of the intake via a clip on connector, much like a diesel fuel connector. And then the same type that run across the top of the radiator to the expansion tank. All of these fail over time so, this side of the coolant system indeed can be a ticking time bomb as Haylands said… Bow down

We change these often when they show weekends with age… Good preventative maintenance in my opinion chaps & chapess’s

The engine bay is full of fragile parts just waiting to fail but not all are ‘ticking time bombs’. Infact I think the only genuine items that could be described in such hysterical terms are absent from the 4.4 - crankshafts on the V6 and egr valves on the 3.6 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

So sorry to offend....

I didn't realise ‘ticking time bomb’ was such an hysterical term....

I understood it to mean An item that can, at any moment, fail, resulting in a disastrous outcome.

The failure of the fitting at that point is common enough for it not to be a failure because of heavy handedness in disassembly but deterioration of the plastic under many heat cycles, repairing the first failure and believing the part is now "likely stronger than OE" is, IMHO, creating a "ticking time bomb" with a part whose failure can result in a seized engine.

We shall have to agree to disagree, personally I would fit a new, genuine part... each to their own... Pete

I'm not aware of any 'disastrous outcomes' i.e loss of an engine from such a failure. It's a small bore pipe so can't suddenly dump the entire coolant and you would get a low coolant warning and sufficient time to do something about it. Repairing the component with a metal sleeve makes it stronger than the original weak plastic part so I'm again unsure how this becomes a 'ticking time bomb' that can result in a seized engine? 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

It wouldn't cost that much to have someone knock a complete assembly up out of aluminium. If I'm looking at it right all it needs is a length of pipe approx 2" pipe swaged at both ends and barbed fittings welding on either side.

Find a local custom exhaust fabricator, they usually do custom intercooler stuff aswell, I'd be shocked if you get charged more than than the new part costs and it will outlive the car.

Eg something like this but with another 8mm fitting on the opposite side
