Severe rust under rear bumper…

Today I started the process of fitting a tow bar to my fattie.

I gets under the rear of the car to start unscrewing and marvel at the state of the metal frame… or what’s left of it!

As I think my bottle of rust converter will struggle and this one, where can I source a new… metal thingy.

It’s from an overfinch spoiler, and it holds the fake tail pipes in place. The rear bumper (the metal bit it bolts to) is fine and only the expected surface rust at least…

I’m guessing if you cannot purchase that bit I’ll have to get one made up at a metal fabricator?

Any suggestions.., Currently driving: 2012 L322 SE Overfinch 4.4 tdv8

That photo doesn’t clearly show the level of rot… the mid section is totally rusted through and the bottom (in the photo) tail pipe is hanging lose Currently driving: 2012 L322 SE Overfinch 4.4 tdv8

Am I able to drive without the rear bumper? Legally I mean?

I cannot see why not as the bumper is just a lump of plastic offering no crash protection… it just a pretty cover for the actual metal bumper underneath… Currently driving: 2012 L322 SE Overfinch 4.4 tdv8

Good old Overfinch build quality! Try sending Overfinch an email? They might have some old spares hanging around?

Mine is the similar. One of the Overfinch Tail Pipe trims must have deployed like a 007 road Grenade 💣 (note they weigh 1.5Kg each). Unfortunately I did not hear it deploy so could not recover it, but feel very bad for anyone or thing it may have hit.

I purchased a salvaged pair from eBay as Overfinch are charging £750 on eBay for them !!!!
Now I find there is nothing solid to attach the Exhaust Trim to just like yours.

If you find a source to either supply the metalwork or make one up, please let me know.
Btw - I would advise you to add some secondary tie wrap fixings to those tail pipe trims just in case the metalwork completely fail and then at least you won’t lose them or hit anybody with them.
