Are the D3S (2012) fitment Osram 220% worth the eyewatering investment? Are they much better over standard Xenons?

My current unbranded fitment is not giving a great output, but they are not that old, but I would appreciate a bit more output. Any recommendations? Philips?

Upgrade the high beam fill-ins instead.

Sorry, I am not quite sure what you mean. Do you mean the normal halogen high beam bulbs?

If so that wouldn't give me better normal dipped beam? The High beams are fine and give loads of light.

I just did this recently in my L405, and yes IMHO its a useful amount more light.
As others have pointed out to me, the “220%” refers to comparison with 35W halogens, not HIDs, but I would say I got a 30% improvement, however subjective that may be.
Some say L322’s have better lights to start with than L405’s tho’. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

After clouting a deer with my 335XD necessitating the fitment of a new adaptive HID headlight it was noticeable that the new light was brighter than the original on the other side which at the time was just over five years old. I fitted the upgraded OSRAM D3S bulbs for about £120 and it made a good difference even over the new OEM (also OSRAM) bulb and a very good difference over the aged one. The light was clearer, the spread wider and the throw definitely better too. If you drive a lot at night I'd say they're well worth the spend.

I’ve got Philips X-tremevision gen2 in mine, can’t fault them at all.

i found the headlights a bit pants on my westie so i replaced the OE 4300k xenon bulbs with fairly cheap ebay 6000k ones and slightly adjusted the beam up a bit...

the new 6000k bulbs although technically not as bright as the OE ones did make the road ahead more easier to see because of the whiter light. ... - .- -.

Stan can you tell me how you adjust the beam please (just in case i need to) - i couldn't see anything in the handbook (2010 4.4TDV AB)

I've got Osram D3S 200% Nightbreakers for dipped and Nighbreakers units for main as well, truly awesome.

Best I've ever had even better than with the 2 Cibies Oscar 100ws I used to have fitted.

Whether they're worth the price up to you, but they seem to last a long time, I had them on my BMW originally and transferred them to fatty when I sold the car, as they were so pricy.

So if your're going to keep the car a while and do a lot of night driving I'd say go for it, I'm happy, and when if I sell the car I'll swap these out to the next one.

As a note, I had Nightbreakers in my Audi, about £50 each, when I sold the car I swapped the originals back in and sold them on EBAY for £60 the pair, so only cost me the difference, i.e. £40.

Out of interest there was a cable with a phono/rca type plug not connected to anything wrapped round the OFS headlight. Looked OE, anyone know what it might be for? I didn't have my phone with me so don't have a pic but can get one in the morning

UPDATE:

I still wasn’t happy with the Osram Nightbreaker “220%” ones, so upgraded to higher power white D3S LEDs, which are way brighter and give a good beam cut-off pattern; had them in a few months now, and not been flashed once. I got mine from AE for peanuts, I’ve posted a link on here somewhere. Not sure about longevity yet, but at the price I paid, happy to swap them out every Winter if need be.  “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?
