OAT Antifreeze

Just after a bit of advice and owners experience on anti freeze, will soon be doing a coolant change on my 2010 3.6 TDV8 and was going to go for OAT concentrate from a well know motoring shop. Its got the pink stuff in already so guessing its OAT in there currently, was going to drain and flush and then add OAT 50/50 mix.

I'm sure this will be ok as I will be flushing the old stuff out, plan to just undo the rad bottom hose and remember to put the heater controls to hot and remove expansion lid.

Any advice welcome.

Point 1 - what are you going to flush it with?
point 2 - you'll never get all the old coolant out, the best you can hope for is to dilute it with fresh so personally I'd drain & vac fill with concentrated stuff on the basis that the old coolant will dilute it by ~30-40%

Confusingly, there are several types of OAT coolant, I think the correct one is G30.

Thanks for the advice much appreciated

I was planning to flush a couple of times with clean water to try and neutralise what will be left in.

Don't flush or mix with tap water - especially if 'hard' water, coolant systems should be flushed either with pre-mixed coolant or de-ionised water, dilution should also be with de-ionised water.

Having said that, I've only worked in one dealership that used de-ionised water... and it wasn't JLR.

Agreed, always use de ionised water. Easily available in 20L containers.
