Scorpion Zeros are a great tyre. They were the factory fit ones.

Check your pressures to make sure they’re not running soft as that’ll have a greater impact than the tyre itself.

I’ve just put Scorpion Zero All Seasons on both of ours and they’re fantastic.

I have a TDV8 4.4, a Defender 90 and an old petrol CLK 350. They all average 30mpg or thereabouts (I don’t do a lot of city/town driving) and that’s good enough for me. I think that if you’re concerned about fuel economy - and I understand that a lot of people have to be - then a Defender or FFRR, or a 31/2 litre convertible are not the best choices.

My other half has a petrol Mazda thingy and that uses loads of fuel, she’s always complaining about it, my lad has a pug 207 and that’s quite frugal but you wouldn’t want to go very far in it if you’re used to a Full Fat.

What has become quite noticeable is the difference in cost between petrol and diesel these days, insofar that I use the Merc as a runaround (and when I go into London) as whatever the mpg, it’s nearly 30p a litre cheaper!

HI, its worth checking the running voltage of the Lamda sensors, they go high with mileage, and tell porkies to the ECU, so burning more fuel. Its an often missed that the Lamba sensors wear over time. My 4.4 does around 28 mostly 16 mile journeys, my older D2 TD5 does 17, and 37 on a 300 mile round trip, but its time to pension the old girl off after eleven years of abuse.

AFAIK the lambda sensors on diesel engines are self compensating for age related output changes. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Thanks, I didn't know that. I had a Citroen BX19rd which ran to over 300k, and mileage was always 48mpg whatever speed it ran at, usually as fast as it could cruise at. I know that upstream and downstream sensors have heaters for economy, but I always thought they relied on a constant running voltage of 2volts.
