I really hope the rest of the wiring is not like that Shocked

Has it got a non standard head unit, those twisted pairs of wires look like the speaker wires that come out of the original amp, that looks like a basic amp setup maybe...

Does all the ICE in the fatty work..?? Pete

Passive crossover for the speakers. Allow connect and split signal to different speakers from single output from amplifier.

Depends if the head unit has a built in amp....

Have a read of this and the other threads mentioned, there is a way to do without an amp and also a way now to keep the original amp...

I agree with Jimmie, it looks like a passive crossover for the speakers. Ron B. VK2OTC

Looks like it's a crossover then, whatever one of them is!!! I know little about ICE, I do know those wires are the speaker wires coming from the original amp, I cut them from the plug and wired them directly to the new head unit that had a built in amplifier.

My original amp, radio etc were drowned in a river in Wales so I had to replace the lot and an Android head unit seemed the way to go...

Good luck with trying to sort it all out...

Speaker wires from when I did it... Thumbs Up

There is a wiring diagram on that thread link for those speaker wires... Thumbs Up Pete

A crossover splits the sound frequencies so the right frequency range goes to each speaker. You don’t really want low frequency bass being sent to a tweeter, or treble being sent to a subwoofer. They can’t produce the sound. The original system used an active system, so the crossovers were in the BM54 amp, and the circuits powered/driven by the 12v feed from the car. This makes the system much more efficient as all the amps power can then be used to drive the speakers. In a more normal passive system the crossovers tend to be on each speaker and the amp has to drive the circuits too, taking quite a bit of its power output and increasing its load.

I know you can just send all the frequencies straight to each speaker but it’s a bit of a waste.
