Airbag warning light

Whilst driving to work this morning, I noticed the red Airbag Warning dash light was lit up, I pulled over restarted the car, but it stayed on.

My cars is now in the LR dealer, they have diagnosed the fault and advised that it needs a new Airbag control module, which they will fit tomorrow. Thankfully this is covered under the LR approved warranty Very Happy

Does the RR share the airbag warning electronics with BMW? Both my parents BMW’s (a 3 series and a 5 series) have had numerous trips to the dealer to have the airbag system reactivated due to due to problems with the seat connectors, seat pad sensors and seatbelt sensors. On the BMW each time there is a break in the circuit, the SRS system is disabled, and needs the dealer’s diagnostic computer to reactivate it.

The dealer tried a 2nd airbag control module today, and again my car refused to connect to it, perhaps it needs an immunosuppressant.

I've got the car back so I can make the Salisbury trip, but need to be extra careful as the airbag system is currently deactivated.

I took my car back in to the dealers on Monday to get the airbag sorted and I've still not got it back yet. They've taken countless traces and sent them off Land Rover Technical, they've fitted another airbag control module and checked the wiring, but the airbag warning light remains on.

Land Rover are sending a specialist out to the dealership on Monday so there's a chance I may get the car back Monday or Tuesday if he can solve it. fingers and toes well and truly crossed.

Thankfully this is covered under the approved used warranty, I dread to think what it would have cost me if I was picking up the bill.

On the plus side, they are going to steam clean my engine following the muddy Salisbury trip for £20 Smile

Cheers

Ask them to check the Rotary Coupler?

I had the Air Bag light problem last year and it turned out the Rotary coupler was at fault. Simple change and it's been fine since.

afaik justin , the only thing that would make the airbag light stay on would be either the drivers or passenger occupancy sensors being faulty, have these been checked..

let us know if the steam clean works mate. Wink ... - .- -.

My FF is still at the dealers Mad

LR Technical could not solve the Airbag warning light and have escalated it up to LR Engineering. The service chap that has been dealing with me was out today, and his collegue was unable to give me any further details, so I will chase him tomorrow morning.

Has anyone else had a car escallated to LR Engineering? I'm worried they will spend a week on it then need to escalate it up further.

The dealership called and explained that LR technical were unable to fix my airbag issue so they have escalated to LR Engineering, who will either solve the problem or will 'fashion' a fix (the dealerships words not mine).

Marshalls are not expecting LR Engineering to respond until next week so I picked the car up today with the airbags disabled and will drop it back in sometime next week.

Well pleased to get my car back, especially with it's freshly cleaned engine.

As long as the fix doesn't involve simply removing or disconnecting the airbag warning lamp, then I'm sure it will be fine

They might put a resistor into the circuit to extinguish the lamp. Not recommended Sad

If they masked the problem and the airbags failed to deploy, the following lawsuit could seriously damage the LR company, so I really don't think it's worth their risk not to fix it fully.

Airbag Fault Update

I've now been driving my car for over a month with no airbags, the dealership were happy to loan me a Freelander, so I said thanks, but no thanks, I will stick with the FFRR.

I've been chasing the dealership every few days and they in turn have been chasing Land Rover engineering, who sadly are still unable to provide an estimate when they expect to produce a fix. As it has dragged on for so long, I decided to escalate to Land Rover, and today they came back with an update.

Still no fix date, but they have offered me a replacement car until they have fixed mine and that it could take a further few weeks. I explained that that's fine as long as its not a Freelander, and I was thrilled to hear that they are loaning me a 2010MY 3.6 TDV8 FFRR Autobiography, which will be dropped off to me on Thursday.

No doubt I will miss the supercharged power, but an almost new FFRR will be very welcome indeed and I'm sure I wont want to give it back when mines finally ready.

Cheers
