Should i?? Shouldnt i??

Hi All. New to this and never had an RR before but ive been offered a late 2011 Tdv8 Vogue in white. Same owner for 7 years and only 63k which looks like 3-5k per year going by Mot history. Also had an oil service this year.

It seems to have the design kit with the squarer rear bumper with the square exhaust outletss

The owner has passed away hence i have first dibs.

Ive only actuallly seen it in the passing and will get home for a proper look on Friday but realistically is this something i should be looking at????

Im not skint but neither am i Daddy Warbucks.

What i am asking is what am i averagely looking at to keep one of these on the road?
2nd car so hopefully in the region of 5-6k miles per year.

Ive been reading lots of posts on this fantastic forum all week and swing between "I must have this thing!" And
"What the blinking flip am i thinking?"

I've had a Rangie for thirteen years now and only last year moved up to a 4.4TDV8 from twelve years in a 3.6TDV8. Wish I hadn't waited so long to get the 4.4! Mine's only got 51k on the clock and I love it to bits.

If you're in the south of the shire, I'd happily offer to come and check it out with you, as I know them fairly well.

As for running costs, excluding tax and fuel, mine's been cheaper than the wife's A3 on maintenance in the past year, primarilly because I've started to work on it myself (oil change etc). Never lifted a glove on the 3.6. Whistle The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom Smile

Haha. To be honest on this forum i never expected anyone to try to put me off.
Today i am swinging towards a go for it attitude. As suggested i can always sell it again Smile
Actually north east of the shire.
Home on Friday so will be crawling about looking for oil leaks amd rust no doubt.

Get some temporary insurance, take it for a drive for a couple of hours - give it some beans and hold it there for a few miles.
When you get back, check for the scent of hot, leaking coolant. If OK and there was no surging when lifting off the throttle with a fully warm engine then you're pretty much good to go - assuming there's no horrendous amounts of corrosion, tyre wear isn't 'odd' and the diff's didn't growl on every tight-ish bend. Oh, work the suspension as well, check the range change functionality and operate the park brake a few times....

Actally the temporary insurance is a really good idea. Im going to ask for an Extended Sunday drive. £36 for a days insurance is good value if its not everything it should be. Bow down

You have to go for it, hearts and heads in turmoil with should I / shouldn't I. Ive been their twice and each time bought one. Brilliant car, 4.4 TDV8 is incredible BUT they have the propensity to bleed your wallet dry at an alarming rate without warning. There is no doubt it's something you just have to do, like marriage go into it with your eyes wide open and thereon after keep them half closed.

All good advice above. As said, check for oil leaks underneath (at rear of engine under tray) as the oil cooler gaskets leak on most at some stage. You can also smell it ff bad. Look in coolant header tank for any oil contamination.
Check its not rusty underneath too. Some I've seen are shocking for their age (boat launchers usually).
You have MMP in Dundee not too far away. Could you arrange for Mike there to inspect it on your extended test drive? Worth an hour of his time. Inspect, read codes etc. It's what I'd do Thumbs Up Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

If you have a specialist near then 100% get it inspected so you know what you are in for. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Gary, if you don’t go for it you will always regret it. In terms of running costs, on your suggested mileage your looking at a service once a year plus the odd consumable. Think all in £3k pa for tax, insurance, servicing and odds and sods. Investigate a warranty too. In your shoes, I’d be in like a shot for this one.

Wow. Thanks for the advice folks.
I knew i was in the wrong place to get spoken out of this.

Price wise i cant see a cheaper one for the miles and its thousands cheaper than anything on autotrader (which seem metal high) so thats no issue and the colour and wheels look very smart as i remember.

Hopefully i can use my sunday drive and go to Aberdeen but I'll be coming from North so Dundee is a fair hike.

All comments very much appreciated.

Love this forum stuff. Who wouldve thought i could spend a couple of hours reading about the benefits of replacing 2 small o rings that i dont even know if i need haha.

Ok folks.
Had a drive and it drives brilliantly.

But. Suspension light is on amd says only normal height available.

On my 2nd run today it went bing and brought up a Censored of faults.
Abs dtc adaptive suspension, park brake.

Possibly that connection or earth inside the drivers wing?

Im pretty happy with the price and i have a local budddy who is not concerned as he has had a couple of Range Rovers

Its not a rusty bus. Bit on the tailgate which seems standard. Scorpions all round wearing evenly, no smoke on giving it a heavy acceleration from standing or from driving.

Little oil at the back of the engine but not a lot.
No oil in the coolant.

Did i miss anything.
Family seem chuffed.

I still keep asking myself if im mental??????
