I was always taught to disconnect earth lead first and reconnect last... Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

I found in the service manual that the time to wait is 20 minutes for everything to go to sleep (page 437 of the service manual). I actually ended up leaving it for about 45 minutes. Disconnected the terminals (neg then pos), touched them together and reconnected.

Confirmed. The switch is toast. I took the switch apart and found the chip where the "smoke" escaped.
