Regular, long periods of just sitting there

I tend to use my other car as the daily runner, its an EV so in part that's down to fuel prices but also I feel that a 4.4 ltr beast probably isn't best served with a short drive down to the shops/school run/Screwfix. Most of my commuting is done via the tube. Though when I do take it out it's for a longish drive out of town, mix of motorways and A roads, so gets a good run when in use.

However, I am thinking whether longish periods of non-use (around 2-4 weeks at a time) is messing up something. I do stick a trickle charger on it once every few weeks. But my drive has a slight incline (upwards) so would that mess up the air suspension or tyres over time or mean that, say, oil collects in one area of the engine? Any other issues with irregular use?

I guess the easiest thing to do is to get rid of it, but it's such a nice ride, has nothing wrong with it (and SWMBO loves it) that I'll probably keep it until it starts having issues.

All thoughts welcome! L405 4.4 AB Loire Blue

I think that the short drives are the worse things for the 4.4? sitting will only mess up the tyres and maybe brake discs, a car that is about six years old should not give you too much trouble with rubber deteriorating.

Your wife is right about a nice place to sit and waft around if you can afford to have it sitting there, that's your business.

I myself am toying with the idea of moving to an L405 4.4 which I use for towing my caravan 8 times a year for two-week stretches, so gets a good workout and still has lowish mileage

I'm like you, I jump on the bus for short journeys.

I think I will see the year out with mine and then start looking for a L405?

It’s not sitting for months on end, so I can’t see any issues to be fair. Just keep the battery topped up.

Thanks Tinman. Yes, it's a lovely smooth ride especially compared to my other car which, relatively speaking, crashes around all over the place. And it looks so good on the driveway too! (haha!). L405 4.4 AB Loire Blue

Thanks! I'm looking to drive her up to Scotland over the summer so should get some nice miles in then. And yes in the meantime will be topping up the battery. L405 4.4 AB Loire Blue

My FFRR spends 90% of the time motionless parked on the street (which slopes down), sometimes for 2-3 weeks at a time. Short trips are in SWMBO’s JCW Mini and journey to the office (on the days I travel into London) are a combination of walking and train. But every two weeks or so, I do a journey of 2-300 miles in a day, for work or pleasure if I’m off to watch sport. Never had any issues at all, it starts on the button first time and everything works as it should. So, based on my experience, you should have no issues at all.
