It's the exterior black frame at the top of the doors, the early ones like yours didn't rust as much as the later ones, my 2002 was mint, my 2012 was rusty...!!! Pete

IMHO waste of time trying to repaint that, the corrosion is coming from the back, around to the front, unless you took them off and got all the corrosion front and back off you are flogging a dead fatty, it will come back straight away...
