First oil change - please help a fool

As almost all my journeys are short, my SDV8 suffers from oil dilution.

Last time I needed an "oil service" I had my local and excellent indy do it.

But, apparently, it's a simple DIY task. So easy even a numpty like me can do it.

I believe I need - links would be great:

Something to suck the old oil out
New oil - what do I buy?

... do I need to change the filter too - if so what do I get and is it easy?

Finally, where do I "plug in" the oil extracting device - a picture would be excellent.

Thanks in advance and apologies for all the stupid questions. What do I put here then?

This is the most popular oil syphon .
It has a 10 litre tank .
Cheaper versions are available, but their smaller tanks risk dirty old oil spillages.

I'm pretty sure you can usually take it to your local tip. What do I put here then?

Geoff,
Pour the old oil back into the empty containers and take them to your local rubbish depot where they will despose of it for you.
Mike.
If you get any empty 5 litre containers from screenwash, add blue etc, keep them for the job. G reg 2.5VM Vogue Portofino red 1991- 1999

Don't forget to reset your service interval or the car's computer won't have a clue it's been done so oil dilution reading will continue to climb and cause warnings.
No idea on an L405 but it requires an OBD2 plug in for the L322....most of us have a GAP IID Bluetooth for this and a 100 other reasons. Buy one Thumbs Up Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

The price for the oil pump is a bit strong.
Here's a 9l one for a lot less.

Smith and Allan oils are excellent and they are very helpful if you have any questions.

No connection to the company, just a satisfied customer.

Oil reset L405 pop bonnet, leave driver door open, press full. Brake and accelerator pedals for 10 secs
Oil filter 36mm socket required and 28nM torque.

the 10L Draper is a dream and takes all your oil and fuel without having to empty and start again zero mess Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

To read Oil level

Simply pull the bonnet release, get in and press the start buttton (without your foot on the brake).

Press "OK" to clear any warnings ( including'bonnet open' )- once they are clear, do the oil check as normal but when it comes up "unavailable" press 'cancel' on the cruise control twice - your oil level shows! 2018 SE SDV8 4.4 Byron Blue

Thanks all. Much appreciated.

Couple more - daft - questions:

What numbers does the oil need to have?
Can anyone recommend the torque wrench I should get - is a halfords one good enough?
Where do I connect the oil drainer pump to? What do I put here then?

I have put several posts up showing oil change procedure for 4.4 tdV8 , mine is an L322, but your L405 is virtually identical.

Mine is a Draper 3/8 sq drive. 36mm socket, 27Nm torque.
