Normal for these cars. My MAP sensor needs cleaning at least every 5k miles but curiously my throttle plate was clean when I removed the intake pipe. If there is any air leak the engine will over fuel and create more soot and if you are getting low MPG and restricted performance I'd look for splits in either the plenum or the 4 rubber connectors. To do a proper clean most take off the whole plenum and I'll get round to it one day - just can't face the mess it will create..... 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322) |

Snap! This must be a FF owners' idea of a 'Spring Clean'

Bought a used plenum to clean up, test and fit to save time with the swop over. It's actually not too badly contaminated and certainly nothing that would make a difference to airflow but you don't need much of this sludge to make it a nasty dirty job to clean up. Mine better be in a bad state to make this job worthwhile. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322) |

Is this a six banger issue? Not seen that level of crud inside my V8 intake when i took it apart... Christian.

TDV8 4.4. Some are worse than others which may be down to how it's been driven, serviced and if it's had an intake air leak. My throttle plate was pretty clean when I last looked but my MAP sensor clogs up very rapidly so not sure what I'll find when I take it off. Having gone through a clean up of the used one I bought yesterday it's not something I want to do again - ever! 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322) |

I can imagine it's pretty grim as it's oil vapour from PCV and EGR mixed together.

Lots of short trips will create sludge in the crank blowby gases that adds to the mix. Also extended oil drains will mean the soot suspended in the oil will add further to the mess so a good argument for regular oil changes. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322) |

Does anybody know if this is a problem with the 3.6? I’d be keen to do this myself to keep everything ship shape! |

Not aware of any issues like this on the 3.6 and many blank their EGR's anyway to prevent turbo and engine damage. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322) |

Is this a job I'm supposed to be doing as preventative maintenance on my 4.4 TDV8?
