Strange smell & slight smoke

Hi guys been getting a strange smell when stationary with window open I can smell it from drivers side only and same when out vehicle just around drivers side similar to a sticking brake pad sort of smell upon opening the bonnet after a long drive there was obvious slight wisp of smoke in engine bay nothing major but I could make out the smell again. It can’t be brake pad related as no smoke or excessive heat round that area. Thoughts anybody?
Cheers

Hi ya, not a bad regen, just a normal regen. The exhaust system gets VERY hot during a re-gen so any debris, dirt, etc. that's on it could smoke etc. Drive the car again, let it get hot with over 1/4 tank of fuel. if it does it again, check if your MPG has dropped through the floor. if it has, its a re-gen. If it is, get on a motorway if you can, put it in manual mode, and drive it for about 20 mins over 2000rpm. That will clear it. 2019 L405 SV Autobiography

Oil cooler leaking into the "V" perhaps? Common issue on the 4.4 V8 diesel.... Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

Don’t think it’s a re gen issue as MPG all good doing 90 miles a day round trip so car being used on long journeys etc..Just strange as it smells similar to break caliper sticking but they are fine breaks recently changed all round so all good. Smell is only really noticeable outside car by drivers side. And also when sat in traffic with window open can smell again from drivers side. Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 SDV8 SVO Stying Pack

Thought the FBH only came on when the remote is pressed or set within the cabin on a timer to come on. Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 SDV8 SVO Stying Pack

FBH will come on automatically if ambient temp is below cerca 10C to assist engine / cabin temp to warm up.

My bet is the aforementioned leaking oil cooler, either the gaskets or the o-rings for the oil pipe or both, causing oil to drip onto the cross-over pipe primarily on the right side.

How long does the FBH stay on for this to assist with warming up cabin. Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 SDV8 SVO Stying Pack

Look underneath at rear of engine area for leaks.
On an L322, you whip off the pollen box, engine cover and then get a torch and look down into V and rear of V. Helps if you put bonnet in service mode. Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

TBH I can’t remember the exact numbers but it stays on till the engine is almost to running temperature if the ambient temperature is low. It is all in the workshop manual which gives all the parameters it kicks in and out at, some good bedtime reading. Very Happy
