EGR cooler leak

4.4 tdv8 2010
i have recently replaced the thermostat housing as the original one had cracked . .
after completing the job i have a coolant leak above the bell housing to the drivers side (uk) and running off the bell housing .
i did search with mirrors etc but for the life of me i wasnt able to see the source of the leak . ( quite a lot of coolant )

i did check oil filter housing and the surrounding area but wasnt able to see any coolant leak so my fix of the thermostat housing was successful but now im suspecting the leak to be the egr cooler area in the V of the engine . can anyone advise on the egr cooler for a common issue with leaks from the base gasket area.

its stripped now and looking for advice going forward to save having the same issue when re built and not solving the leak .
are their any ways to test the cooler and egr valve before re fitting with new gaskets .
any help would be brilliant

regards
Andy

just to confirm when i pressure tested the coolant system it was stable . its only loosing coolant when running .

I’ve had my EGR cooler leak recently. It was all stripped off, EGR stripped, all new gaskets, hoses etc and rebuilt.
There was a small amount of dried red coolant in the V on drivers side.
I was loosing a small amount of coolant over a period of time.
All good now.
Just to reiterate this was the EGR cooler and not the oil cooler which sits on top with the oil filter Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

hi
when i checked the V i had no coolant at the thermostat end . i checked at the oring area the oring what gives problems at the rear of the egr and couldnt see a thing . BUT LOADS of coolant round the bell housing . looking at it logically it looked too much to be a gasket . more like a hose as the expansion tank emptied within 5 mins .
i will pressure test i guess before re fitting . . when ive sussed out the holes to plug to test lol

when the egr and cooler are removed revealing the cast iron block .im guessing this chamber with visible head bolts is normally filled with antifreeze or oil ?
is this correct as when i removed the egr under it was empty apart from a small amounts of antifreeze and oil what had run into this area from above .their was the antifreeze in thethermostat feed within the same area
