Red Wine Purchase

Embarassed

So I got a bit carried away on Friday after a few glasses of Wine and bought a 2007 TDV8 off a salvage auction...

Flood Damaged. Big Cry

Seemed like a good idea at the time, however according to the description the water came up to floor level. The pictures show the suspension jacked right up which makes me think it was being driven at the time, so I am basically now suffering serious buyers remorse Very Happy

So when it arrives whats the quickest way to check for engine damage due to water ingress. I am guessing air filter would be one place and drop the oil. The pics show the dash is blank so no power.

Before anyone says anything, yes... I know...

Turn the engine over by hand with a socket on the crankshaft, this will tell you if it's hydro locked... It wold have to be very deep water to get a gulp big enough to get inside though...

That is the least of your worries, all the entertainment is in the boot sides along with a lot of ECU's... they will all need removing, flushing and cleaning and reinstalling to see which ones are toast...

The whole interior will have to come out to remove the carpets, they are backed with foam up to 8" thick in places and it will not dry if left in, just rot everything....

Connecting a battery and trying anything will probably cause more damage I would think....

If it were me I would out it straight away or break it....

Good Luck and step away from the wine...... Thumbs Up Pete

I don't know if Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter or Bow down Bow down is applicable given the mention of alcohol in this case.
BUT, one has to admire someone with a sense of adventure like yours.
I am praying it wan't sea water!!!! Good tip about the battery in the previous comment, that would probably render the car as scrap in one go. You may have to open and check the exhaust system, if it's held water for ages that could be goosed. As for washing through the electrical and electronic components, when needed, I use water from the reservoir on my self condensing dryer, practically distilled so no deposits left, just put the water through a fine filter first.

Look forward to reading updates, once you get started, at least it's something to do during lock down. Good luck Thumbs Up

Depends how much you paid as to whether it was a bad idea.....

If the engine seems OK, you might be able to pick up another with a blown engine and have 1 good car at the end.

It's impressive purchasing though - I only managed a trolley jack - I'm clearly not trying hard enough Whistle

Wow, I would say brave man, but obviously alcohol induced. Have a check on HPI & see what salvage category it was given. If was a B, Then scrap it. If N. then do as the others have mentioned. The big issue with water & electrics is not now it's later Big Cry

CAT N gives a little more reassurance. Lets hope it was just a river type flood & not contaminated water Shocked
It may have just taken too much in & cut out. See if you have a high tide line, as this will give you some idea what was submerged.
You may be lucky Whistle

No worries, I had my classic once in a hurricane down in Mexico up to the dashboard in the flood. Changing all oils and filters, ripped the inside apart, pressure washing everything and she came back to life. Driver side seat adjustment switches had to be replaced and two other relays under the seat where full of mud.

But then on the other hand…the classic was not stuffed to the top with electronics as the L322. Whistle

Hope it was a very good and tasty wine. Mr. Green

Says on the windscreen R [runner] 2 [2 keys] N [cat N] so apparently it was/is a runner. Looks like a Copart special?

That's what I thought however I now know that "R" means "Received" and "N" means "Non Runner" thankfully I have spoken to Copart this morning and I am able to cancel the purchase by paying a relist fee. Feeling very Sheep ish L322 2007 TDV8 3.6
