Anyone used a non genuine inlet manifold?

I recently bought a 07 TDV8 vogue as a winter run about, taking dogs out etc…maybe a bit of towing. it has a few issues which im in the process of sorting out. There is a chuffing noise from engine which i assumed was an exhaust gasket but my local indy has diagnosed by sound as the driver side inlet manifold, likely cracked.

A new LR part is about £700, which i really don't want to spend plus £300 in labour on a cheap run about. He has advised against a used part and said he can fit an ebay part which is new now genuine but cant guarantee the part….which is understandable

My question is, has anyone used a non genuine part with success?

Thanks

The genuine manifolds are improved versions of those used to build the engine, with weaknesses addressed.
