What are people doing for BT Audio in 02-05 sound systems?

So guys,

I'm going to make the assumption that I can't just pair my phone up to my 02-05 Supercharged L322?

So..

The above is also true for my 2004 Mercedes SL. For the SL I have used this Anker Bluetooth audio adapter which is really cool. The sound is pretty good.

Off the bat, I can see myself buying another of these for the L322.. from a quick google I can see that people are using the aux in of the RSE as the input (thankful I have that).

One of the biggest drawbacks of the system is that I can't keep it on charge when it's running, as I get a nasty ground loop noise on the audio. I tried one of these filters but the resultant audio was garbage.

It's not a bad solution and I think I would be happy with it.. I think some time I would like to be able to wire it up somewhat more permanently so that it comes on/off with the ignition and also I can filter out the ground loop while keeping the good audio quality.

Interested to hear what others are using.

I have a 2012 Westminster, but I use the Amazon Alexa auto for music. Wired to the aux socket and powered by USB, BT linked to phone (and phone also BT linked directly to car as normal).
It is a great solution, as apart from being able to control home automation from within the car, it allows me to stream music, take calls, etc. the voice control of Alexa is much more advanced than the OE voice command in the Rangie.
I guess the only drawback is that music streaming is limited to Spotify or Amazon music (so won’t stream songs loaded on my phone), but in reality I generally play radio stations on Alexa, so I’m okay with that.

I think it may be your ground loop isolator Conor? I use one on a cheapo Ebay bluetooth reciever and it works well for me. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/392734699305 FFRR 4.2SC/KTM 990SMT Current and cherished.

Yeap.

Out of the box there is a ground loop.. I bought a cheapo one from Amazon and while it did remove the ground noise, the sound from it was terrible.

I guess I need to just get a higher quality isolator.

2012 Range Rover Autobiography TDV8 Baltic Blue

Although yours is an 05 registered Supercharged it'll be based on the later architecture of the 06MY with the touchscreen so don't get the two systems confused as they're very different.

There's a 3.5mm socket behind the centre cubby box, I use a male to male 3.5mm cable and plug it into a battery operated bluetooth receiver. Works very well and only cost a few quid to sort. Make sure you're using a shielded cable though.

Hi David, thanks for that.. i've been having a tough time dissecting what it is that I have, so thanks for pointing that out. I knew that my exterior setup was from the 06MY but wasn't sure about the interior/electronics.

So... is it the case that while the general interior etc didn't get refreshed until a little later, but the entertainment system was updated.

That's a great setup Anvil and I like it a lot - may I ask when aux input you refer to/use in your setup? Is it the one towards the rear of the centre console i.e. in the rear, facing the rear passengers... as opposed to some other location I've not seen? Thanks a lot!

Yep that’s the one. Facing rear passengers. Get a 90degree plug to it doesn’t stick out. Loads of them on eBay. FFRR 4.2SC/KTM 990SMT Current and cherished.

Cool, thanks for the headsup. Also, Anvil - notice you have a ground loop isolator in your setup there? It looks like the same one I had, and the sound was crap through it.. how do you find yours?

I have RSE, why does it make a difference..? Is it because you would lose all your RSE. In any case, when you go aftermarket, don't you lose all the OE software in the ICE system? I'd like to keep that.

yea you'd lose it. I upgraded everything except the speakers as they are pretty good with a decent 6 channel amp. go hard or go home with that setup Current stable:

Hi Conor, I found it reduced volume just a little bit, but the quality is ace. No feedback and still great bass, treble and mid range. Still have all the rse in mine too! FFRR 4.2SC/KTM 990SMT Current and cherished.
