Just bought a 2007 3.6 TDV8 with 88k miles on it and want to get things off to a good start with some preventative maintenance.

The previous owner's mechanic said it has been a year since the last service (it had covered about 4k miles since then) and thus recommends we change the engine oil and filters, the cabin, and the fuel filter. He said that about the same time, they had drained the gearbox completely and changed the gearbox oil filter (not mega-flushed) and he said the oil they took out was surprisingly clean, had no metal filings on the magnet, and thus did not think it needed doing again. He also said all the suspension bushes were checked and none needed changing, and it is true there are no knocking noises coming from underneath. The air filter looks like its a K&N type so just needs cleaning.

I intend to blank off the EGR valves this weekend (I already bought them) and will also change the brake fluid while we are at it.

This mechanic told me they also remapped on the car with something from Dimsport (he also tunes cars) and it does indeed fly with incredible amounts of torque, but I am wondering if it would be better to get this redone with someone like Quantum (out here) or BAS remotely (I have a GAP IId).

Any other advice to help me set things up with this car to go towards preventing any future headaches would be very much appreciated

If you're going to do a BAS remap, you can get the EGRs deleted in the map at the same time, as sometimes just blanking them may still result in the engine management light coming on.

If it is already remapped then why do it again? Just enjoy it as it is. To me that is just wasting money.

I thought about remapping it to a known map rather than something I do not know about, that's all.

Unless all maps are similar that is, then I would agree with you.

But might be worth doing to ensure EGRs are mapped out properly and blanked off…. Depends on your thought process….

See how it goes once the EGR are blanked. Most maps are the the same file anyway, lots of places to download and but still a bit of a mystery to some. As long as you aren't expecting further miracles

Lots of threads on here about preventative maintenance on the rear wheel arches /sill ends: Freelander trim fitting, wax injection etc.

Does anyone think that I should try and get the gearbox mega flushed even though last year it had the oil and filter changed?

Would it make that more difference to justify over 400 eu cost?

Save your 400 for something else if it’s been serviced last year. If it’s not working properly after a service it’s not the fluid that’s the problem. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)
