Think so but it would have been better if they stuck to the original design Thumbs Up ====================================

Yes definitely! The front headlights look like MY10 Range Rover lights with 2 bar indicators rather than 3, and the rear lights look like MY10 RRS lights.

Yes I think it was. I think they should have kept the name "Stormer" rather than trying to create another RR. But they must have decided they'd sell far more by calling it a RR Sport.
Generally I don't think the public know there's a difference between FF & sport other than the body kit look & maybe that's good for sales.

Because the Sport came out later many people actually think it's the higher spec model.

Think about it...

Range Rover
Range Rover Sport

As 'the' Range Rover doesn't have a model designation (although many call it a Vogue) I can see why people not in the know make the mistake.

and of course I suppose popularity has something to do with it (or maybe it's price..?)
If I'm out & about you can guarantee to see 3 or 4 or more sports to every 1 FF

If you ever see an old original classic they had a badge saying "by Land Rover" on the back

So that was a Land Rover Range Rover

now we have the Range rover Evoque, why not call it a Land Rover Evoque ?
and Range Rover sport, but why not Land Rover Sport ?
Why did they call the Discovery Land rover & not "range Rover Discovery"

none of it makes much sense apart from I guess the Range rover name is so highly regarded, they'd be foolish not to cash in on it and use it on more new models they start making.

Unless Range Rover & Land Rover have been sold off separately and I didn't know about that.....

Jaguar Land Rover are currently in the process of seperating the "Land Rover" and "Range Rover" brands.

Land Rover for tough vehicles with ledgendary offroad ability.
Range Rover for ultimate luxury and style.
(My words)

You can see this if you look at the website.

Quite simply it's better for the company to make the Sport and Evoque a Range Rovers. It gives the vehicle a different target audience and justifies charging a premium price. Hence the Sport is more expensive than the Discovery, although they effectively the same base vehicle. OK, the Sport is has more luxury, but the Disco has two extra seats and is more practical. Again, it's for the target market.

While I may not be a fan of seperating the brands or having more than one "Range Rover" I can see the reasons. Companies need to make money and I'll bet they made a heap on the back of the Sport with a Range Rover badge on the back.

The Discovery has always been a Land Rover, right back to when it was introduced in 1989. Back then they only made Land Rovers (utility vehicles) and Range Rovers. So it traded on the toughness and 4x4 ability of the Land Rover brand, as nobody had thought to seperate them back then. Funny thing is that the original Disco was actually a Range Rover pretty much, just with a different body. Same chassis etc...

Funny how FFRR owners say the Sport is an overpriced Disco and devalues the Range Rover brand. I wonder back in 1989 if Range Rover owners were complaining if stealing a fair % of the mechanicals and putting a "Land Rover Discovery" badge on it was making their Rangies look cheap. Laughing

One things for sure, it worked. Thumbs Up
And hence the company still survives today thanks to platform sharing while targeting different areas of the market.

Yeah, it worked. The Cayenne and the Touareg are one and there are many other examples.

While the RR is the ultimate in luxury, I believe it is that unique combination of rugged Land Rover and go-anywhere luxury that created the RR mystique. I posted it somewhere else, but coming from a background of auto electrics in the late 80's, I thought the RR (as most Brit cars) was shiht - till I lived with one for 10 days. Then I had to have one. And now it seems to have grown to the point where my RR passion has surpassed my original automotive passion; I only own 2 Porsches at the moment but I own 4 RR's (one of every generation as in the sig).

Just as the decision by Porsche to build SUVs and 4 door cars, I think that in the short term this may provide a boost for the RR brand, while in the long term the dilution of the 'pure' car that captured enthusiasts' hearts will cause the brands (both LR and RR - and Porsche for that matter) to suffer.

Just my opinion.

Funny.. A lot of my friends seem to think I have the lesser model, and ask me why I didn't get a sport as they believe exactly this !

It's funny to see the sidevents, headlights and tail lights of the current generation FFRR and Sport, are very similar to the Stormer! 2000 BMW M5, Avus Blue/LeMans Leather Interior

Totally agree. I've lost count of the amount of times that friends family and even strangers ask why didn't I get the 'better' sport version!! Had a few sport drivers making out there's is a better model. I now tend to drive past them now with my window down shouting "GET A PROPER RANGE ROVER". It makes me feel good inside Thumbs Up Ex FFRR 4.2 Supercharged
