It’s nearly always a boost leak, even though you’ve had a smoke test, you really need a good eyeball + white tissue check around every hose and union starting with the four donut hoses. You’re looking for soot escaping which the tissue will show. If you can get a high pressure smoke test it may show up but the low pressure just can’t pressurise the system enough. Search ‘donut hoses’ + ‘restricted’ - common issue but thankfully (hopefully) usually a simple fix. On mine for example a circlip gave up. Bent the clip, cleared the code and sorted.

Thanks GGRD, would a boost leak cause high soot levels in the DPF ?

Yes definitely. These intake leaks will create too much soot and fill your DPF

As above, get a high pressure leak test done.

Dr Rob, I do indeed still have the original rubbish donuts on there so I will change them all while it’s off the road.

There are a lot of snake oil DPF fixers out there, in my opinion and experience you need the DPF off the car and in a machine like a "flash" machine. That's how they do commercial DPFs, London busses for example. But for now I would focus on finding the boost leak. The DPF may be ok and if you get into a cycle of normal use should settle down. . Ah OK, it seems that the sensors are reporting a high pressure differential which means either a) one or both sensors are faulty or b) the DPF is again blocked. BMW i3 Electric Car 2012 Full Fat RR 4.4 TDV8 (now gone) 2006 VW Touareg 3.0 TDi V6 |
