Cabin preconditioning with remote control?

I'm finding instructions for Cabin preconditioning with remote control in the online manual about as clear as mud!

I understand that you can set the cabin pre conditioning to come on at a set time everyday, and that you can even now do it via an app - But my life is not so structured that I need it to come on everyday (or 5 days per week), neither do I want to over complicate things with an app.

From what I can see I have a small remote key fob, in addition to the standard car key - Am I right in saying that if I want to heat or cool the cabin, I point it at the car, press it and it will heat / cool the car to whatever I left the cabin temperature set to?

Assuming so, how long does it run and maintain the temperature for?

Finally, if I want to keep the dogs cool in the car, let's say I'm out of it for 15 minutes, am I right in thinking that I can get the car to maintain the temperature in the cabin using this feature with the doors locked.

If anyone can please explain in simple terms, I'd be very grateful.

If you have the small fob then you will have a fuel burning heater (FBH) installed. Search FBH on here and you'll see loads of stuff about it.

AFAIK from when I had my Westie, the L322 only had heating or ventilating, not cooling. For cooling you would need to have the engine running which is only an option on some L405 models.

Depending on which year the FBH will run for 20-30 mins but also has parameters around remaining fuel, outside temperature and battery condition which sometimes mean it won't fire up at all.

So you would not be able to keep the car cool for your dogs, but can pre-heat it on chilly winter days Thumbs Up 2021 D350 Fifty Edition - Carpathian Grey

Thanks Rob99 - That does help.

Mine is a 2022MY L405 (delivered December 2021), so I think it will be able to cool, but will double check.

TBH, I hate technology, but did look at the "Remote App" today, which I downloaded on the advice of the factory at time of collection.

I see that there is a"Climate Section" on there, whereby I can select a "Climate Target Temperature", and activate.

I suspect this may do what I want..... My car is currently having modification work carried out by Cam-Tech-Craig, so I'll take a proper look when it gets back from him next week.

Thanks again Rob Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

If you don’t have the FBH (which I don’t think you do), then you can pre cool or heat the car via the app. But all it does is remote start the engine, set the temperature to what you’ve chosen in the app and leave the doors locked.

I’ve got the FBH which is a much better option in the winter (I’ve used it a lot) and have used the remote start to cool the car a couple of times in the summer. MY23 Panamera E-Hybrid

Thanks Martin - My standard spec for the car shows it as having "Cabin pre-conditioning with remote control" is that not the same as FBH.

I thought that's what the additional little remote fob was for that is on the key ring with my key, or is that for something else?

Ah, I assumed from your profile details that you had an L322.

My L405 will cool but needs to be done through the climate section of the incontrol app as it needs to run the engine. The small fob I have fires up the FBH without needing an engine start. 2021 D350 Fifty Edition - Carpathian Grey

Ahh, sorry, if you have the little remote then you have the FBH Thumbs Up

Use that for heating the car and the remote app for cooling . MY23 Panamera E-Hybrid

With the FBH you'll notice some slight smoking from under the bonnet but don't be alarmed that's normal

It's a much better option than the App Climate Control because, firstly the engine doesn't need to start (illegal in some places apparently) and secondly you get much better heating and clearing of mirrors etc and it takes half the time, so much more efficient than the app version Thumbs Up

If I remember rightly (I don't have it on my present car as forgot to spec it Big Cry ) it heats the interior to 20 degrees which is enough on a freezing day! All LR cars from 1984

That's good to know, thanks Chalky Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

I did read not to activate it in an enclosed space like a garage, I guess in light of the fumes.

Will try and familiarise myself with it in the coming days.
