Hello all, my first post here so please bear with me! I have been servicing the car this week and have become stumped on the rear diff - mine is a standard diff and I can’t seem to find the fill plug? (Or basically the local LR dealer have given me the wrong plugs!

Front diff was fine - could not believe the 1cm thick lump of grey metal paste glued to the magnet of the diff plug though! Worrying……

Any help or pictures that can be spared would be really appreciated.

Haven’t done an 07 rear diff before....
I would have guessed fill plug is on the top half, either left or right hand side

I have seen some comment that you need a 14mm Hex Drive for rear diffs.
There is a YouTube service of a front and rear diff, plus transfer box oil service for an 07 plate L322. Poster name is Nut Job.
The clip is cut short and doesn’t show the rear diff.
Poster reckons the drain hole was right at the bottom of the diff and took a 3/8th Drive, and the fill plug took a 7mm hex drive / Allen key.
Were you expecting to find the fill plug needs a 14mm hex ? Hence the Q if you were given wrong size fill plugs?
Not a disaster to re-use fill plugs ......

Just be careful to measure how much oil goes in. The old adage of when it spills it's right ! doesn't apply for the L322. The only car I know where this is the case.

As long as you haven't damaged the plug when removing it, just wrap a couple of turns of PTFE tape around the threads and reuse your old plug.

Feel like I need to say thanks for the help guys - I tried to log in to my account but password forgotten. Tried a reset but admin wouldn’t really help me so I’ve had to create a new login. Never mind - first poster and all that!

I managed to sort the rear diff oil - I will do a separate write up as I feel definitely worth doing it - don’t know if this is all in my head but the drivetrain in general feels a lot smoother. May do a wiki if the mods will allow it? (I suggest that as I was given the wrong fill plug by dealership and thus doubted my ability to even do the job!)
