Just been out on a short trip to the shops, got back in the car, drove out of the car park and the car groans and takes a dive as though the brakes have been applied. Carry on diving and all good. Slow down to take a turn and again feels like the brakes have been applied as it goes into 1st gear. Get home and check transfer hi low ok. Engine running sweet, Drive slowly forward and the same scenario every time, Get up speed a bit and all seems ok. Any Ideas? The gearbox has done 70000k since a rebuild, No dash warnings or bongs. this could be the end of this old girl. I have run live data and no codes from gearbox, can select any gear in sport mode 2007 TDV8 VSE

100% not brakes binding, car rolls with no binding. The feeling is more like something grabbing in the driveline, at 1st I thought I was caught up on something. No nasty noises but more of a groan from the drivetrain, a bit like changing down in a manual and letting the clutch up. I am clutching at straws and keep reading about solenoids and valves in the gearbox failing and springs breaking but cannot find anywhere the same symptoms. Any gearbox experts, know how 1st and possibly 2nd gear could cause this without throwing any codes 2007 TDV8 VSE

All I can think of now is to have a look under the car to check all bits / drive shafts / support bearings etc are in place as normal ( maybe check all oil levels )and if so speak to a gearbox company for advice.

You haven’t accidentally pressed the hdc button have you? My old man valeted my first Range Rover a few years back, I got in and went to pull off and it did what you have described! |

So last night unable to sleep with worry, I mentally removed the gearbox valve body and also wrote a for sale add, spares or repair... then I woke up. Checked for FF replies and got the HDC advice. Rushed to the garage started the car, stupidly did not look for the green downhill logo lit before playing with the HDC and traction control buttons. Ensured HDC off and gingerly pulled out of the dive with no repeat of the grabbing. Went for a 5min drive stopping and starting and all good. Thanks so much, Pjtaroni, littlecub and Merchy for the advice. Of course, I have blamed the wife, Could not possibly be me with all my years of RR experience.
