3.6 TDV8 humming noise !

Hi all, the other day I had the problem with the black smoke on hard acceleration and changed both intercooler hoses which cured the issue.

Today when driving home it seemed like the heating vents were whistling, tried turning the vents off but the whistling didn't go away but when I opened the window I could hear a humming noise from the front of the car which only happened when I hit 60 mph. As soon as I slowed down the noise stopped, anytime I sped up to 60 the noise would return, anyone got any ideas what this could be ? Cheers Tom

I've read on here that it is the trim at the bottom of the screen come loose and it needs sticking back down.

+1 on the trim at the bottom of the window. Not personally experienced, but read that a few times.

If not that then certainly something flapping in the wind. Currently driving: 2012 L322 SE Overfinch 4.4 tdv8

we had exactly that problem, with us it was the air filter box not seated properly, I did wedge a bit of rubber between the interior air filter and the top of the scuttle as well and the noise disappeared.

Thanks for the replies, I checked the bottom of the screen and all seems fine. We have another 3.6 in the family and compared to that one both scuttles are the same so probably not that. I checked the cabin filter and the cover was a bit worn and slightly twisted meaning only two of the four retraining lugs were ok and two weren’t tight to the flap.

I also noticed one of the jubilee clips on the new intercooler hoses I fitted the other day seemed to have moved backwards and probably wasn’t seated correctly so I’ve replaced that. Took it for a drive and couldn’t hear the noise but the roads were busy so plenty of other traffic noise, will know for sure tomorrow on the early morning drive to work and fingers crossed no humming noise.

Mine did exactly this the other day. I cleaned under the lower part of the windscreen seal and put some 3M VHB tape in between the seal and glass. Obviously cured it as I had completely forgotten until I read this post and realised it didn't do it today.

Just a quick update to say no humming noise from the front of the car or whistling through the air vents. Was asked if it was time to get something else as I’ve had this car longer than any other, simple answer is no ! If I changed cars it would have to be another Range Rover for sure. I wouldn’t mind an old defender as well as the Range Rover just for the fun of it though. There is nothing else out there apart from Landrovers that I fancy owning, definitely a convert now Smile
