Calais to Nice

I'm planning a road trip between these two locations. Does anyone have any suggestions for nice/interesting hotels, B and B's, Gites etc. Also any route suggestions appreciated.
I look forward to your suggestions
Andy

Hi Andy,
Done the same trip three times now its great, you'll have a great time.
My preferred route.Reims,Troyes,Dijon Lyon.
On the way down we stay in Beaune at the Campanile which is a little more expensive than some of the chains but the food/wine is excellent and reasonably priced and there is a pool which is great for a pre-dinner dip after the long drive from Calais.
On the way back we stop at Epernay again at the Campanile, its a long way up on the first leg but a shorter and therefore less risky hop for the ferry/tunnel.
Takes me about 7 hours Calais to Beaune and about the same again Beaune to St.Tropez, but that is just me driving with 1 long stop for lunch and another quick stop for a stretch and relief.
The only place to watch is Lyon don't be there in the rush hour it's nightmare even with the new outer ring, don't miss that or it will add about half an hour because of a traffic bottleneck over the river.
If you're looking for something more upmarket and interesting we once stayed at a chateau at Nuits St.Georges near to Beaune, the family room for 5 was fairly cheap but we got through about £300's worth of wine by mistake not having been shown a wine list !!!
Hope that helps.

P.S.
Nearly all the fixed speed cameras are on the steepish long downhill stretches catching the ones blatting down the hill so I go slow down the hills and welly it up the other side.
You can comfortably sit at 85 without the gendarmes getting upset.
Also get yourself a Sanef telepeage transponder before you go will save ages going through the auto barrier rather than queuing and the additional cost is negligible Banished back to RRS for the moment !!!

Route I took was Montreux Swizerland, through Swiss Alps, down through Italy and along the French Riviera to Nice.

Granted, a long way round, but imagine all the best Top Gear road test routes and it will give you an idea of what to expect after Montreux!

There was no time constraint, but we were most certainly
In a hurry, if you know what I mean? Whistle

Few cars in convoy including a MB SLR, Gallardo, 360 Scuderia and 911T. Was huge fun!
