Fitting a Tracker

Well today I rang Direct Line to renew my Insurance for fatty (been with them for 20 years+ with various cars), usually they have been very good.
Surprise surprise, "Do you have a tracker fitted sir?, "No i dont" "Well to be covered for theft sir you have to have a tracker fitted.".
I replied that it was a 15 years old car and I have insured fatty with them for 5 years, "Doesnt matter sir now it has to have a Thatcham approved tracker fitted. certain makes of cars now have to have an approved tracker fitted".
I quickly checked the new policy and there it was tucked away, so now I have to get one fitted. Shocked
Started reading up on whats available, so far I have realised the annual subscription is the thing to watch for.
Any suggestions??

My suggestion would be to change insurer!

My insurer (First Central) specifies:-

Quote:

Endorsement 3 – Security
The insurer will only be legally responsible for claims arising under section 2 Fire and theft when a Thatcham
category 1 or 2 immobilising device or tracker device has been fitted to your car in line with the manufacturer’s
instructions and is operating at all times your car is left unattended.
The insurer will need proof the device is fitted to your car before your insurer will consider any claim under
section 2 Fire and theft.

From https://thatchamfitters.co.uk/car/cars-wit...-rover.htm it appears I have a factory fit Level One immobiliser

The same thing happened to me, only realised after reading the documents, fortunately I noticed within the 14 day " change you mind" period.

I managed to get a refund and re-insured elsewhere without the tracker clause and saved £75! Smile RR owner

Thanks,
I do have a multi-car deal with them which works out at a very good rate for both cars, so, after shopping around have decided to stick with them and am getting a tracker fitted.
I am also signed up to a local Police communication service called "Owl". It keeps you up to date on local crime and where it has happened and other relevant information. The area around where we are has been fairly crime free for many years but within the last 4 months or so there has been an increase in the number of driveway car thefts, via cloning etc, I think it can only get worse as costs everywhere keep increasing.

I went through the same thing last year, it was worth switching to Direct Line despite the tracker installation costs. First year savings paid for the tracker, should be quids in from year 2, even with the subscription...

I'm hoping that their age and the lack of keyless entry means L322s aren't tempting targets, but it's nice having the tracker just in case.
