2007 TDV8 dashboard lit up like Xmas tree limp mode

Hi everyone.
I’ve had my car a bit over a year now and it’s been alright, this is the first major upset it’s had.
Anyway driving to work this morning all was normal, then suddenly one bong after another started and the dash lit up like an Xmas tree and it ground to a halt although the engine was still running fine.

I got:

Engine system fault

Transmission fault limited gears available

HDC inactive

Air suspension fault

Parking brake fault

Car literally lost all power and stopped, when I turned it off then on again the dash was clear and it drove away fine for the rest of the journey.

As I’m guessing all of these things aren’t likely to fail at once maybe it’s a sensor?, not sure if it could be the alternator as the battery light wasn’t on and the car had power.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I don’t even know where to start here!.

Sounds like battery to me. Check the leads first and earth points are all tight and clean.
How old is the battery? Maybe do a drop test (not literally!) on it to test its condition.
Maybe throw a new one on there if it's old. These motors hate old and failing batteries.
Any decent garage can test and fit.
Where are you based and I can recommend a decent specialist to use who can run tests/fault codes etc rather than guessing

The battery is quite old on it, I’m in Weybridge, there’s someone I normally use for servicing etc but if you know anyone who’s really good with them I’m open to suggestions!.
I’m going to put a multimeter on the battery later to eliminate the alternator being at fault, about 14v or more means it’s healthy IIRC?.

Voltage should read 14.5 volts when charging with no load, everything on and it should still be 14v, that tests the alternator...

Then test the battery, fully charge it then unplug and allow to stand for one hour, then it should read 12.6v or more... Thumbs Up Pete

Put a multimeter on it when running and was showing 13.99 V so I’m assuming not the alternator, new battery put on this afternoon and all seems well so far, couldn’t believe how much faster it cranked when starting, maybe my old one really was knackered, it certainly looked old.

I would keep a eye on the alternator, this sounds identical to when mine failed on a 2007. Slowly got worse over a period of months and initially felt like a failing battery. If the alternator was strong, it likely wouldn't fail mid journey even with a poor battery IMO.

I think the 2007's are renowned for it! Sold - Bell a 2015 MY16 Loire Blue Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

Thanks, I will keep an eye on it, alternators on them aren’t that expensive from looking online but it seems like it’s a pig of a job to do!!.
