Cheers for that link. I’ve seen it (although its been a while) along with a few others, and will watch them again once the parts arrive. Always good to watch to familiarise yourself before starting on a job like that. Currently driving: 2012 L322 SE Overfinch 4.4 tdv8

I made a start to the job or replacing bushes yesterday, and it didn’t go too smoothly… and not much progress has been made.
I followed the excellent guides by Joe90 and Fisha, as well as following the RAVE manuals.

I got the car jacked up and on axel stands with the battery disconnected, removed the wheel and supported the subframe (for later) and suspension arm with a pair of jacks.
I started on removing the bolt for the top hub bush… and it was a Censored ! It was tight all the way to the end, and the upward push of the bar needed was difficult. I wish I had an impact driver!

And then the trouble started…

The bolt is seized inside the bush, and although it turns easily… the inside of the bush turns with it. The fecker just will not budge! I have some freeze spray being delivered Monday (I did order it before but amazon cancelled that order due to stock issues and I forgot to reorder! Doh!) and I’ll try again. Failing that I’ll borrow a blow torch and give that a go.

I also have a few cutting blades coming to either remove the end of the bolt that’s battered or to cut the bush out.
And yes I should have not hit the bare bolt end so hard, and without a bolt on… but at that point my finger was throbbing from the chunk of skin helpfully removed, I was hot and bothered, I’d lost my temper and I should have walked away! Censored

I knew this wasn’t going to be a walk in the park… but the first bolt!!! Big Cry Currently driving: 2012 L322 SE Overfinch 4.4 tdv8

I see you have a jack under the hub. I recently did this job on mine and had no issues getting the bolt out, I did not have the jack pushing up on the hub

Just from your pictures it looks like you have the hub assy hanging down. ie weight on that bolt.
Raise lower arm etc to take the weight off it.
Have you degassed the air springs? L322 3.6 TDV8 Vogue. 07MY

Thanks RichM63 and wayneg for your posts.
The bag has been depressurised and is soft to the touch now. One jack was under the sub frame for use later, and the other to support the hub assembly and to make life easier later. There was little pressure on the bolt and it turned very easily… but did also try with the jack higher up and lowered at various points.

They are valid suggestions, but they don’t appear to be causing me issues in this case Currently driving: 2012 L322 SE Overfinch 4.4 tdv8

No luck with the freeze spray.

The bolt is well and truly seized in the inner sleeve of the bush, and has separated from the outer sleeve/rubber.

Plan b then (or is it C? D? I lose track…) Currently driving: 2012 L322 SE Overfinch 4.4 tdv8

That’s now the LHS all done! After that top hub bush was removed the rest was relatively straight forward Thumbs Up

I cocked up the top hub bush removal slightly as I should have cut off the bolt head and then tightened the nut until it releases (I misunderstood some advice and cut off the wrong end!) and ended up with this…

I eventually demolished the bush with a hammer and chisel as that inner bolt would not budge. Now it looks like this…

Other than that the only other issue I had was trying to reattach the airbag hose as the nut is really stiff and access was difficult… and as Joe90 says you need 4 hands for it!!!

All in all I am very happy with the job.

I started the RHS last night too and am pleased to say that all but one of the nuts and bolts have loosened and are not rusted in. The upper arm and top hub bush is out and have started on the clean up of the subframe before painting it.

The only troublesome nut is the toe link knuckle bolt, but as the lower arm is coming out I figured I’d take the lot out and deal with it on the garage floor!

Unless there is any unexpected problems, I should get this all done this weekend!!! Thumbs Up Currently driving: 2012 L322 SE Overfinch 4.4 tdv8

And I’m done!

All bushes replaced, control arm replaced, and tie link replaced. Also scrubbed all rusty parts on the subframe and lower arm, painted and looking good!

Tracking also sorted (was surprisingly close!), and very happy. The back end feels so much more planted, and now just needs the suspension calibrated.

All in all I’m a happy boy! Cool Currently driving: 2012 L322 SE Overfinch 4.4 tdv8

Can I ask if you bought the cheaper priced lower suspension arms or some more expensive ones? I've seen a vast difference in price. Just wondered about the quality of the bushes fitted in them. Thanks Kev.

I intended to buy the genuine bushes only, but ended up buying the upper arm as it was cheaper than buying just the bushes.
The lower arm was cleaned up and bushes replaced.

Everything purchased was genuine in my case so cannot comment on the quality difference. Currently driving: 2012 L322 SE Overfinch 4.4 tdv8
