GAP insurance must be circa 60% plus profit given the difference between dealer prices and what you can pay by going direct. The add ones are often very high commission to the salesman for this very reason. Bought a nearly new BMW and had to sign that the salesman had offered the add ins but that I had declined them! 2012 tdv8 Westminster arrived Jan 19 gone Dec 23

Sorry, but I can't see that making any sense... Bristol JLR has just opened up in Cribbs Causway and it must have cost several million to build! Maybe even tens of millions?

That doesn't come from just workshop profits! The time involved in prepping a new car, PDI, handover, after-sales... It all has to be profitable otherwise what's the point?

You are right, dealerships do make significant money (and they should) if/when they meet required sales volumes - then they get their bonuses.
So on paper, short term margins on new cars are relatively small, but this is largely compensated by volume bonuses.

It's just the structure all dealerships use with most manufacturers on a global scale. Among other financial, tax and accounting reasons, this incentivises managements and sales team to work even harder. l=Oo\________/oO=l l:OolΞΞΞΞΞΞΞloO:l

Bit off thread, when I last looked, couldn't find GAP insurance as a stand alone product that exceeds £75k back to invoice.

Never spent anything like that so haven’t had an issue! I’ve generally gone with GAP insurance promoted on Honest John website. 2012 tdv8 Westminster arrived Jan 19 gone Dec 23

From my time in the dealership (10 years ago) it was generally around a 15% markup, so there was room to haggle

However, if the dealership met its sales targets from LR, there were large bonuses received for the sales dept. Hence why most dealerships will have a selection of ore registered cars Thumbs Up

me thinks theres a fair old kickback to the dealer on those..

Yep, was offered all those when I bought my AB. To be fair the salesman wasn't particularly pushing them hard but did say that it's what they have been instructed to offer all customers. 2017 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography
