Good Evening All,

I am in the process of refurbishment / painting of my wheels.
Fortunately I have a full sized spare, but when I put it on the car to refurb a wheel on the car I got the tpms warning lamp come up, without even driving the car, will this correct itself?

The spare will either not have a TPMS or it will have a flat battery.

When you put the refurbished wheel back with a working TPMS it should go away..

Well that's how the 322 works and I guess it will be similar... Pete

For a L405 I have copied following from Topix.

As different pressure targets and thresholds for the front and rear tires, the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) can identify the location of the tires. The TPMS system then assigns received tire pressure sensor identification to a specific position on the vehicle. For example: front left.

The TPMS locates the position of the tire automatically. This function requires no manual intervention by the driver. The TPMS automatically learns the position of tires on the vehicle if the tire pressure sensors or their positions are changed on the vehicle.

The tire learn and location process is ready to start when the vehicle has been stationary, or is travelling at less than 20 km/h (12.5 mph) for 15 minutes. This is known as 'Parking mode'. The learn/locate process requires the vehicle to be driven at speeds of more than 20 km/h (12.5 mph) for 15 minutes. If the vehicle speed reduces to below 20 km/h (12.5 mph), the learn process timer is suspended until the vehicle speed increases to more than 20 km/h (12.5 mph), after which time the timer is resumed. If the vehicle speed remains below 20 km/h (12.5 mph) for more than 15 minutes, the timer is set to zero and process starts again.

The TPMS can automatically detect, under all operating conditions, the following:

If 1 or more tire pressure sensors have been replaced.
If 1 or more tire pressure sensor identifications are missing.
If 1 or more ‘alien’ identifications are being received (the TPMS will reject these signals).
Identifications from tire pressure sensors that do not belong to the vehicle.
If 1 of the tires in use on the vehicle have exchanged position on the vehicle.
If 1 or more incompatible tire pressure sensors have been installed.
If the tire pressure sensors installed to the running wheels are changed, the TPMS can learn the new sensor identifications automatically. The learn function requires no manual intervention by the driver. 2018 SE SDV8 4.4 Byron Blue

Can I add a supplemental question on this? Do all L405 have TPMS sensors installed? I ask as I just picked upon a 2013 AB and in the dealers spec it states it has TPMS, but it doesn't have TPMS valves, and a VIN lockup say it isn't fitted. Just running through my options with the dealer next week, but if I know that fitting new valves will work then thats a weight of my mind.

If it needs specific hardware in the car as well then I cant see that being easy to retrofit to ask 8 year old vehicle.

Car is also missing an electronic tower, thats going to be the fun one for them to fix!

TPMS on new vehicles became the law in late 2014. I suspect, but don’t know for sure, that early L405’s did not have TPMS.

My SDV8 AB was registered 15/02/2013 and came with tpms as standard?

Thanks Dave,

I'm rather hoping that the electronics were just fitted as standard anyway, so Ill just need valves. The US versions have needed it as standard since about 2006, but globally joined up thinking doesn't always work with car companies.

Here's the same question asked differently: does anyone with an L405 NOT have TPMS?
