When I changed my 4.4's gaskets I coated the new middle gasket with a high temperature silicone sealant. If your gasket doesn't disintegrate then perhaps that's an option for you.

Yes - I'll need to drop some of its oil and coolant though as I can imagine the two will mix if I removed just the cooler on its own.

Pretty sure it’s 002342 - between the cooler and the base looking at the parts invoice from when I did this.
