I would be inclined to get another quote from somewhere else to help put it into perspective. They are quite expensive there... 2010 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE |

£850 to free up stuck actuators is taking the , quite frankly. Anyone with the knowledge (an LR specialist for example) will have encountered this a million times and know exactly what they are doing. It honestly takes about 10 minutes to do the driver's side - I know because I've done it - and most of that time is taking the wheel off and putting it back on.

The suspension works fine, occasionally in rare circumstances it has come up with a fault but taking your foot of the brake and re attempting a lower / raise and it works fine. I do not plan to do any work to the compressor. Having read yours and the other responses I will contact another garage to ask if they can help. |

Thanks for your response, I'm going to go to another indy to see if I can get a better quote and not feel like I am being fleeced. |

A new AMK compressor is about £450 so I would like to know what the other £400 is for. A Hitachi compressor is about £150 again what's the extra £400 for?

I've contacted another indie closer to me and will get alternative quotes.

Get a good local mechanic to give you a price.

I had a stuck l/h actuator linkage on my TDV8 when I bought it a couple of months ago... it had been stood for a while before I got it. I went to my local garage and we put it on the ramp. I sat in the car and Jon who owns the garage got his torch out and used a long rod and a can of wd40 to free up the actuator whist I cycled the ignition a few times (the actuators go through a test cycle each time you turn the ignition on and then do the same after you switch it off). Took 10 mins and he did not charge me....

Update: took it to a local indie and he solved the issue by loosening the stuck actuator. Cost £200 all in!
