i am looking at an other mod to add paddle shifts to the pre touch screen but inorder for it to work you will loose your heated steering wheel, its a simple mod and works in the same way as two way lighting on your stairs in the house, now i am not saying you will end up with a light switch in your car but its the same idea,
the paddles will act in the same way as if you was pushing your gear lever up and down.
basically you would be tapping into the signal wires on your gear lever and extending them up to your steering wheel but you will loose you heated wheel as you will need to use this connection on the slip ring.

this excellent link was given to me by dan,http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1469408 its done on a bmw but as you know its almost the same, you dont need the smg slip ring as you will already have it if you have the heated wheel.

for me i will go for this as i dont use my heated wheel as i get the wife to go out to the car on very cold days and sit there holding the wheel for me to warm it, then i get dress and go a work. V8 facelift Range Rover Autobiography 22" wheels.

Send the signal down via remote ...that way you dont loose the heated steering wheel

You may not need to modifiy the switches ..if they produce just an normal/open close state .

I am doing simular on a d4 ..but also using unused adaptive cruise control buttons to raise / lower the car from the steering wheel

Just waiting for the D4 to arrive though
