The earlier tailgates seem to be far better at resisting rust than the newer ones, I'm assuming you mean a 2012 rather than a 2021 model as that would be completely different (L405 models have different tailgates). Form what others have posted on here you need to look for tailgates manufactured whilst BMW owned Land Rover as the steel/rust protection appears to be the best of the bunch 2011 TDV8 Vogue SE |

Yes, as time went on, more and more recycled steel was used. Trouble now is, the earlier better ones are now not always better.... as they are old.

Everyone says they are interchangeable but they are not 100% I got a 2002 rust free example for my 2007 - it was missing one of the heated rear screen pickups and it was missing a hole in the top for the gromet of the reverse camera wires. Luckily there was another larger hole I found a geomet that fit ant used that and the heated screen seems to work so maybe it was the aerial or something. Current stable:
