United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Zambezi Silver
Transfer box oil

Hello
Can anyone tell me if the special transfer box oil is all the same there seems to be a different number for the year change on mine which is 2006 , 3.6 tdv8
Does anyone know how much LR will rip me off for said oil
I've got new engine oil and filter and 3lts of syntax 75/90 so I thought may as well do all the oils as I've have no history on there last change other than the sevice book saying sevice to spec .
If the cars up for oil change I will get the front diff and transfer box at the same time then up the ramp for the rear diff
Cheers Thumbs Up

United Kingdom

2006 was the year when Land Rover drastically changed the diesel L322 driveline (for 2007 model year) from:

3.0 TD6 BMW diesel engine (130kW/390Nm)/GM 5L40-E 5-speed transmission/New Venture NV225 transfer box

to

3.6 TDV8 Ford diesel engine (200kW/640Nm)/ZF 6HP26 6-speed transmission/Magna Steyr DD295 transfer box

You therefore have the later transfer box (which, incidentally, Land Rover are still using today) which is fitted with an electronically-controlled slipping wet multi-plate clutch to provide a centre differential lock and torque biasing between front and rear propshafts.

It’s therefore very important that the fluid you use has the correct friction modifiers to suit the clutch’s characteristics, so you should only use the recommended Shell TF0753 fluid (capacity = 1.5 litres).

P.S. The earlier New Venture Gear transfer box also used a special fluid, Castrol BOT 26 FMB 1 75W-90, to suit the friction characteristics of its Torsen Type-B centre differential (capacity = 1.0 litre)
