Hi all,

Have been lurking for a while but am looking at buying a 4.2 SC in the near future. Currently drive an BMW e38 740 (which will be staying) and have not had Range Rovers before but always fancied one..

Got my eye on one which has done approx 70k miles

Could be low voltage from the battery or, more likely, a failing BCM or lots of other things...

Personally with those and especially the vibration which could be anything from wheel balance to torque converter failure through gearbox and transfer box I'd walk away and find a better one...

Plenty out there....

Battery was 12.7V and 13.8V charging so should be okay I think.

Out of interest, if you run diagnostics on your car do you expect to see many and not to reappear after clearing?

Just trying to get a feel for whether it is ‘normal’ to have a few on the go... 😬

Is there a particular reason you are thinking of the BCM (which I think lives under the passenger seat)?

My hope on the vibration is it to be a sticky brake caliper, as apparently that fits the symptoms as well.

It’s not filling me with confidence. Low battery can cause all sorts of issues, as Pete says. Difficult to tell for certain.

The vibration, if a sticking calliper or wheel bearing will prob make the wheel more warm to the touch than the others.

Is this the only one you have looked at? Sounds like you need to find one to compare it to, so you know what feels right to you....

Have had a look at a few, but a lot of dogs out there unfortunately.

This one is just perfect in terms of colour combo (silver with black piped ivory and silver painted wood, body condition, only 1 previous owner, et cetera.

BCM controls most things on the car, although you will have another 20 odd ECU's...

There are usually a few faults that don't clear or cause any problems, but just a few...

I had numerous sticking brake callipers on my off roader L322 and never had a vibration...

Thanks, it is a dealer purchase and will have 6 months AA warranty on it, but obviously like to get it right from the start rather than get into a massive back and forth on issues - will need to see what they say price wise and whether they can offer getting it all properly diagnosed / resolved.

Dealer is not local to me, so any faults that are not resolved now would need to be resolved through by an indy under the AA warranty..

There's a lot of error codes for things on the front and rear of the car.

Does it have a facelift done on it? Unusual as pretty much ever bulb and every parking sensor is listed on that list of codes.

Don't forget to check just what the warranty covers, some are not worth the paper they are printed on. 2011 TDV8 Vogue SE

Yes I was surprised as well by all the parking sensors and bulbs!

The car is completely bog standard, so no facelift or anything. I am wondering whether it could have been caused by water ingress in the cubby hole.

I am guessing if that is the cause I should steer clear?

The warranty will not pay for anything that was broken when you bought the car, also as has been said a lot are useless but even the best ones don't cover a lot of the electronics..

Unless it is VERY cheap it's just not worth it... electrical gremlins are very difficult to trace and can get very expensive, very quickly, if you pay someone to do it... and you wouldn't be on here asking if you could do it yourself...!!

Took the plunge in the end and have not been disappointed.

Vibration turned out to be sticky calliper and car has now had new discs all round and new callipers at the rear

Not sure why the AA man couldnt clear the codes but it’s had a full health check now from Land&Jag Surrey and all has been declared fine.

Very happy motoring thus far and buying accessories like sprinter jacks, bootliners and hybrid TV modules..

I have a 2008 full fat SC and you should not be getting a list of codes.
.I don't think I would buy it unless the dealer agreed to rectify them. Even if you get it at a low price it could be a headache to rectify them. I did not look at them however and if they relate to minor things like bulbs it might be OK if the dealer corrects the vibration. Maybe have a LR dealer or Indy look at the codes to get their opinion. There are a few things that don't work on my car like intermittent wipers but I still love it.
