The Panda doesn't have chains fitted.

If you look at the front wheels you can see quite clearly that the RR doesn't have winter tyres fitted, because there's little snow encrusted on the tread. This is how winter tyres work, the sipes on them holds the snow to the tyre and the snow on the tyre grips the snow on the road.



Incidentally, you see a lot of this at the ski resorts, big 4x4's (usually British) sliding all over the place because they're on the wrong tyres. You get something like three times the grip with winter tyres on snow so it's much more important to have the correct tyres than four wheel drive, as it will give you three times the traction, plus three times the braking and cornering grip.

It's always about they tyres first & then the driver (or maybe the other way around) - and the car a distant third.

I nearly bought a Panda 4x4 last year - brand new - and had Conti Winters fitted from the factory.

I have an L405 with Conti Winters fitted and am quite used to driving in the snow, as I live in a ski resort for the winter. However, a couple of years ago I got thei bus from the airport back home - it was snowing heavily & the roads were a nightmare, but he definitely drove faster than I would have done - and it was a c20 seater Merc mini bus He probably grew up in the area and made the same journey several times per day - but he was chucking it into roundabouts at speeds that made me feel nervous....

I’ve been in some transfer busses and cars which Were going too fast for comfort, never had an incident tho. We get a minibus when we come up to Andorra, they invariably have winters fitted and we opt for a bag of chains as well. Have never had to employ the chains, last holiday driving out of the village was touch and go in our minds as it has snowed heavily the night before, but the van performed perfectly on winters no issues at all. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Ive fitted some winter tyres to my i3, in the recent snow my neighbour with a freelander couldn't make it up the hill to get out of our estate, all four wheels spinning and he was going nowhere. I havent had the chance to try the i3 in snow or with winter tyres until this occasion, I stopped, waited until he'd given up and then moved off again on the same hill that he couldn't ascend.
The only other experience was with my business partner, Audi A4 RLine Estate OMG, he drove as if on normal roads the grip was incredible. He lives in Aviemore and has good quality tyres and lot of snow road experience, I could not believe how well the car and tyre combination performed.
So definitely a big YES for winter tyres.
