Hi All,

I know this is a `how long is a piece of string` question but how long are CV boots designed to last?

I had a garage fit one to the O/S back in Oct approx 8,000 miles ago. This has now split and chucked grease all inside the wheel arch.

Is it worth complaining to garage to see if it can be changed under manufactures warranty or is it just one of those things that can happen, if say a stone has hit it??

Stones could hit it all day long and it wont fail...

I would expect a 12 months parts and labour warranty on anything fitted by a garage, unless it was a cash job or something similar where you have very little to fall back on.

It was probable that the CV was fitted incorrectly, nipped etc. Or a cheap universal one was used?

Mine lasted over 120,000 (sold before failing)

One side had a very small split, not enough to fail a MOT or leak

yes unless its been hit with something then 8k is way tto early for it to fail.

Is it a clean split which looks to be a join? reason i ask you can get CV boots which you glue, easier labour but a bodge. 2004 black Vogue TD6

I am having an ongoing minor issue with mine after replacing OS drive shaft recently. Problem is mine keeps popping off its fittings, has done it on both ends now. The mechanic has now 'refitted' it twice but its a pain in the arse having to keep an eye on it, and a further pain in the arse having to drop it at the garage then pick it up again

Sorry to HIJACK your thread but I'm doing my breaks at themmoment and my drivers side, outer cv inner joint has come off. It's been previously fix/bodged with a jubalie clip. Now can I reseal it with a clip or do I need to do anything else? Should I inject grease into the boot?
