Take the offer of a loan car, then they can take as long as they like.

Well I would be blooming furious by now and I admire your self control.

I think when it’s done to test drive it before you pay the bill, then just drive home, make them wait the same length of time to get paid.
Your not refusing to pay, just working on it..

Good luck mate. 2003 4.4 V8 Vogue. Oslo Blue.
2003 TD6 SE, Adriatic Blue, no sunroof, no heated seats, but I did love it.

They offered me a golf last week but said they were working on it so didn’t need it but now it’s a week later. Kids back at school easier in that than a golf or Clio that I have.

As for the other customers car now I am being made to feel guilty for asking on updates. And parts being ordered I don’t know about.

I want to go back with that analogy around payment or if he went out for dinner and waitress took his order but never came back with food would he not ask or would he sit there for 2 months. But I just don’t want to get in to a row. So my diplomatic side now wants to just say ok draw a line under it what time frames are we looking at Martin. And not respond or bite on his reply Current Cars

I'd just be the bigger person mate n accept it for what it is. They've got no reason too feed you bull crop if it's on the ramp but can then use this to try n get some form of discount come payment time

Thing is we been here week on week. I have been the bigger man surely it can’t drag on. I have yet again said OK can we set some timeframes what are your expectations on completion. Will see if the reply comes.

Can’t see I will get any discount but might have to pay under duress. Current Cars

Ash, a couple of things here;

1, My Disco 4 was in a bodyshop because I was hit by a dead deer (Not the other way 'round and yes it is a long story), for over two months because they were waiting for a headlamp from LR that was on back order. I was in disbelief that a common part for a common car should take so long. So having spoken directly with other Aftersales Managers who work for LR dealers, they did indeed say that the LR parts delivery service is somewhat lacking...... Having been on the receiving end of it I know from first hand experience how frustrating it is. Only thing you could do is establish exactly what part they're waiting for and then contact the local LR dealer to see if indeed it is on back order. if it is then I'm afraid you're stuck.

2, You can't, as some have suggested, have the car back and refuse to pay the bill. There's a thing called Betterment, and assuming they repair the fault, then the car has been 'bettered' and you cannot then refuse to pay the bill. What you can do is pay under sufferance and make sure that is logged pending a formal complaint through the aforementioned Motorcodes and/or Motor Ombudsman. Interestingly, if you just have routine maintenance carried out on your car, for example servicing or MOT, you can refuse to pay the bill (Though you need to have a valid dispute), and the dealer cannot withhold your car.

Anyway, good luck with it Ash, I think you have been admirably pragmatic given the circumstances.

Sam go for the long story I am going to be here for a while haha

The thing is I was never told that it’s a LR backlog issue and we don’t know when the part will be in. I was told part is in etc so the comms has been wrong. It was covid, snow, lack of staff, hospital appointments etc why it was delayed. If they said it will be 3 months till the part is in then I knew 3 months and I would be like OK I will call in 3 months. That hasn’t been the case.

On the payment side I’m not the type not to pay. I have no problem paying. I just like the analogy that they wouldn’t want me to take 3 months to pay I have to pay instantly.

I have no intention of not paying however I do think for the utter mess and lack of communication there should be some form of discount or something. I don’t want to go ombudsman etc it’s too much hassle. Nor do I want to do negative feedback but what choices do I have if there is no common respect as a customer / provider. I only wanted it fixed not all the stress and arguments. Current Cars

Deceased deer was at an altitude of around 15 feet and on a downward trajectory when it struck the front of my (stationary) car. At least it gave you a chuckle, which is probably more than can be said for the poor deer.
