Fed up with 2011 Battery Drain

Hi all

One seriously fed up owner here. A £90k car obviously doesn't get you a decent battery nowadays or competent engineering. I've refrained from posting until now as have been giving local dealer chance to resolve. Despite various outings to the dealer and an 'all ok' battery, I seem to be getting Low Battery - Start Engine messages. I have done just 1,500 miles and can't escape from this message. Never even tried to use the FBH/Vent as I know it will muck everything up. How much longer have I got after a low battery warning to a flat battery?

What to do?!

Thanks.

John.

I love it though Sad Where do I stand legally? It's had various other faulty electronics replaced already.

i dont know how you stand legally but how about sitting down with the sales manger and explaining the problems and see what kind of solution he can offer...like you say its a £90k car and there's a chance you will spend at this dealer again so the sales manager would be a pratt not to sort this out for you..

if this doesn't work then i would seriously go to a solicitor and get them to contact the dealer , you would be surprised how people jump when they get a official looking letter... ... - .- -.

Thank you, scarey.

Its going in again for one last chance. Let's hope this fixes it. I suppose it could be that the low battery warning is oversensitive and just panicking me. Sadly I don't think it is Sad

the weather is lovely and warm at the moment so the battery hasn't got a lot to do but, wait till it gets cold then it will fail.. good luck at the dealer. ... - .- -.

Thanks very much for the insight! Is this sort of an unofficial recall? I thought I would be contacted?

Sorry to hear about your problem.
Does anyone know if this is affecting the TDV8 only or is the 5L Supercharged petrol also affected with battery drain?

Think it's all 2011 models. But Diesels use more power to start.

It will go official , but have a good relationship with my dealer

Do not know if it is all or just TDv8 i would think both cars , the software mod will be to shorten the amount of time all the stuff stays on IE video display , sat nav etc when you unlock the car but do not start the engine , also it will shorten the pre-heater to less then 10 mins i am told. Do not think they wil contact you until they 1/ have the memo at your dealer and 2/ until they have the QTY of new Batts required in stock at Land Rover Far to many gone...

so on a cold frosty morning, the pre-heater is now meant to do its job in less than 10 minutes when previously it took 30? How come? Has its heating capacity suddenly been tripled?

I can imagine the complaints when next winter comes....LR have just traded low battery warning complaints to "my remote heater doesn't sufficiently heat my vehicle on cold mornings before it shuts down...." complaints.

But cold mornings wont arrive for several months yet......and LR must think that they have again been successful at pulling the wool over the eyes of its customers.

I think they also alter the heating cycle so it uses the same amount of fuel to give more heat in a shorter time if that is the case better IMO Far to many gone...

Not possible, the webasto heater is already at full throttle after its initial start cycle which takes 1-2 minutes, then it goes through its power down/ cooling cycle for the last 5 minutes.

So if they are saying the car can be fully up to temperature after 3 minutes of full burn then I'll eat my hat!

It's really quite simple, the current draw of th FBH is VERY low. The FBH is not the issue, however it may be the straw that brakes the camels back.

It would be more to the point if LR UK found the cause of the drain (not the dealers, because lets face it, they don't give a hoot). The P38 went for years with constant battery drain that turned out to be the alarm RF receiver waking the car up.

The dealers don't give a hoot?

Amen to that...
