I didnt even bother trying to get to the clip engine end, same as you just moved the dipstick tube over and cut clip with dremel type tool ( aldi really but does all I need) use universal joint on 1/4 drive socket to tighten up jubilee clip.

Stuart 2006 where did you get the hose from ? and what size jubilee clip did you use ? Is there no chance of saving the old hose ? Sorry for all the questions

You can use the current hose as long as you don't damage it cutting the clip off (and it's in good condition, obviously). I just wanted to get a new hose so I had the original as a spare if it all went pear-shaped. New hose was from Island 4x4 (Kent):

1 x HOSE ASSY (Genuine) PCH001221 (PCH001221LR) = £24.99

Sub-Total: £24.99
UK Delivery (FedEx Courier) (Standard): £5.00
VAT 20%: £6.00
Total: £35.99

Jubilee clip is stainless steel 35-50mm (eBay item eBay Item No. 390845362916, many others available). Make sure you have a spanner or socket to tighten the clip with - no room to get a screwdriver in there.

Didn't bother putting a Jubilee clip around the thermostat itself - it makes a bit of a bulge in the pipe and I can't imagine it moving.
