Reminds me of my Triumph Trident gearbox, that didn't have a gasket at the split line either - and that pi***d oil out all over the garage floor.....

Faith in warranty restored!

Well, I was worried about this leak as I have had the car 6 months tomorrow and I have done 5250 miles in it and my warranty is 6 months or 6000 miles and I thought they would crawl out of it as they usually try to do.

Took it in to one of their approved shops (don't know if I can mention it!) and they have diagnosed that it is the seal between transfer box and gearbox, but they have quoted to split the box as well to do the silicon seal. The whole job is about 500 quid and it has been fully approved (except for £25.00 + VAT for diagnosis!)

Going in tomorrow - even an FOC courtesy car!

My faith is restored Thumbs Up

Well it been at the warranty company for a week now and they say that the casing has either a crack or it is porous?

they say that a new casing is too expensive and the warranty won't pay that they will only pay for a specialist weld repair?

Anyone know where I can get a second hand casing?

Porous or cracked, that's some kind of diagnosis Censored

You'd like to think they could tell which, not the news you need to hear.

Do they suffer porosity? RRPhil?? Ian

I have just been to see it and it looks like a crack to me. I have taken a photo and will try and up load it. It looks as though someone has had a go at it in the past with some liquid metal or something?? Sad

picture isn't the best but i can see what you mean.

Where did you buy the car from? Any chance of going back to them if it was a main dealer?

Are they able to weld it? Ian

They know a specialist welder that will gaurantee the weld - but I am so worried about distortion.

The dealer has been fine - it wasnt a main dealer - the warranty company have been good, but the cost of a new casting (and you ca only buy a pair) is over my limit on warranty claim.

I can't see that a specialist welder will distort it. Did they suggest there was a risk? Ian

There is a couple on ebay on is £500. Could get them to strip it and just use the part you need and the rest of the internals from yours. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

There is always an element of distortion with welding as putting heat into that area has to have a risk.

I've seen those on eBay but what would be better is a duff box for scrap value that I could take the end casing off and use that.

I'm told that the crack is not uncommon? Anyone heard of this before? I'm also told that trying to seal it with liquid metal or filler is also not uncommon and usually works! Big Cry

Mine is exactly the same!!
Spoke to previous owner (who had had it from new) and he
not had it repaired. I honestly think that they come from factory like this,
and that it is classed as an acceptable casting defect, can not see how this
area could be stressed in everyday life.
I supported gearbox, removed support bracket, cleaned with thinners, and coated with
2 layers of JB Weld, now done 4500 miles since, and still seems ok.
The original repair looked like plastic padding.

Perhaps try - equicar - they usually have newish Land Rover models for breaking . . . .

Just a thought - is it not worth going directly back to Land Rover to ask for "goodwill", considering the age of your car ?

Thumbs Up Where do you go after one of these . . . ?
